Position Summary

Outreach Specialists are highly visible in the community and are very mobile.  This position serves as the link between community, volunteer networks, collaborating organizations and CPS Energy departments in support of CPS Energy initiated events.  Provides information and education to the community at large and participates in many resource events and outreach activities. Actively promotes utility residential customer programs and educates first responders, educators, contractors and general public on electric and gas infrastructure safety.
 

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assists building and sustaining viable community presence by hosting all Customer Programs for promoting electrical and natural gas safety, energy conservation, and customer programs.
  • Assists developing, cultivates, and owns relationships with representatives from key partnerships with local community groups, non-profit organizations and other partner agencies to enhance community engagement immersion strategies.
  • Assists in creating project plans for complex events and manages the plan through execution.
  • Communicates accepted best practices of outreach strategies among other organizations for potential adoption and implementation. 
  • Commits to projects meeting expectations regarding schedule, budget, scope and quality through metrics and benchmarking.
  • Assists developing, enhancing and maintaining event marketing collateral through collaborative efforts with Corporate Communications including content updates on cpsenergy.com/events website utilizing Adobe Experience Manager.
  • Coordinate/organize/set-up/tear down promotional events, sponsored by CPS Energy, assistance agencies, elected officials or others.
  • Lead logistics management for assigned events with all department-initiated to include third-party events.
  • Assist in the assessment of ongoing needs of the people who receive support through CPS Energy’s customer assistance programs for proposing, developing, and implementing new and modifying existing programs.
  • Build public awareness of all programs offered through CPS Energy.
  • Assist in bridging customers outside of CPS Energy and their agency offerings.  
  • Communicates between CPS Energy, other state agencies, counties, and local communities of each other’s public safety capabilities and limitations in an emergency to enhance training.
  • Coordinate post incident response activities.
  • Assists with research, interpret, explain, and apply applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations related to public safety requirements.
  • Identifies areas in the construction and first responder community where additional training is needed per data, professional standards, applicable laws, and enhanced safety needs.
  • Research, design and implement safety training programs to provide continuous education on electric/gas utility infrastructure.
  • Recommends prioritize, plan, and fulfill Public Safety and Education and Customer Outreach calendar commitments.
  • Develop and deliver Public Safety and Energy Conservation programs and presentations to all segmented audiences (General public, educators, contractors, first responders).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Strong Public speaking skills.
Experience in community relations focused on excellence in service, sales, and marketing.
Ability to perform tasks with considerable amount of autotomy, while informing management of progress.
Ability to handle a wide variety of work in a fast-paced environment and by deadline.
Effective oral and written communication skills as well as ability to train first responders.
Experience in communicating effectively with the general public, agency and local government officials at various levels.
Ability to facilitate relationships and establish rapport with individuals and community contacts from a wide range of backgrounds.
Ability to develop and deliver presentations to large and small groups comprised of diverse backgrounds including small school aged children to adult professionals.
Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule that may include early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
Ability to support an average work week of 47 hours.
Ability to work from assigned work location and other locations as needed; this position does not support hybrid or remote work from home. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Power Point, Excel, Word).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in education, safety, utility or construction industry
  • Public Safety trainer
  • Bilingual in Spanish

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Safety, Social Services or related field or proven extensive experience in conducting community-based outreach and/or educator in public safety programs in government, utilities, institutional or industrial settings.

Required Certifications

Working Environment

Work is performed both equally indoors and outdoors, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi- functioning printer and calculator.
Ability to travel frequently to and from outreach events, training sessions, or other business related activities. After hours work will be required (evenings and weekends).

Physical Demands

Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a 20 pounds amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Work requires frequent driving along with frequent pulling, hauling, staging, tearing down and storing equipment associated with community outreach activities.
