Position Summary

Creates and executes the internal communication plans and ensures the consistent and coordinated execution of initiatives. Drives effective organization-wide and segmented internal communication by managing various communication channels to support and promote CPS Energy initiatives and strategies for a diverse workforce in a hybrid environment that includes office and field employees. Engages and leads a professional team to proactively plan then assess and respond to the delivery of effective communications.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Leads a team to produce and engage the workforce through internal communications and announcements.
  • Assist in developing and editing internal communications campaigns, messages and materials.
  • Manages communication content and placements on the company’s intranet.
  • Unify internal communications messages across all appropriate mediums to reach the entire workforce while also targeting segmented messages for different departments of the organization.
  • Collaborates with strategy team and change management team on internal communication efforts supporting Vision 2027 to evolve our utility. 
  • Develop and maintain templates, style guides, checklists and best practices resources.
  • Interfaces with partner teams and internal clients to determine needs.
  • Coordinates with information technology-focused area on system improvements and software development.
  • Collaborates with internal IT team and, when available, reports aggregate internal web use and communications software data to make improvements and enhancements for effective internal communications. 
  • Actively supports the efforts of the communications leadership team, taking the initiative to identify needs, monitor departmental business plans and budgets, problem solve, and work collaboratively.
  • Provides regular reporting to director, peers, or others, as required.
  • Manages and evaluates individual and team performance to include employee development plans (to include SWOTs) for direct reports to ensure knowledge capture, business continuity and effective succession planning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Prior work experience in applying internal communications strategies, change management, best practices, and digital communications platforms and channels.
Prior work experience in communication management to include professional experience developing and writing messaging and content for written and digital publication.
Prior experience with new technologies and new ways of virtual communicating to a broad employee base (web-based training, new town hall formats, in person, Teams, WebEx, etc.).
Prior work experience handling sensitive and confidential information.
Prior experience leading or supervising a team.
Advanced writing and editing expertise.
Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License with favorable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience involving collaborating internally and externally for information from a variety of sources
  • Prior experience in creating effective communications for diverse internal audiences
  • Experience with video editing and/or graphic design
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field from an accredited university.

Required Certifications

Working Environment

Hybrid work environment. Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion.
Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events.

Physical Demands

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
