Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry’s rapidly changing workforce needs by providing local San Antonio high school students with public utility career experience. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experience that expands their understanding of how the industry works and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to be successful. The internship is not only meant for the intern to learn how to perform, but to also understand the rationale behind the strategies that are being used.

The intern will assist in the daily operation of the personal protective equipment test lab.  They will learn what the lab does for CPS Energy and how vital our job is in keeping our workforce safe.  They will learn what each piece of material is used for in the field to help protect the end-user from shock and or electrocution. This will include the receiving of rubber insulated goods (gloves, sleeves, blankets, line hose, and connectors) from our storerooms.  This will include pairing goods together, pre-inspecting, counting, loading/unloading the wash, and staging goods to be tested.  The intern will also assist in drying and pairing of gloves and sleeves, stamping expiration dates on goods as needed, help pack goods. There will also be some housekeeping such as sweeping, wiping down equipment, cleaning signage, and organizing.  The intern will also help in verifying counts, basic office work like filing, and laminating signage.
