Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry’s rapidly changing workforce needs by providing local San Antonio high school students with public utility career experience. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experience that expands their understanding of how the industry works and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to be successful. The internship is not only meant for the intern to learn how to perform, but to also understand the rationale behind the strategies that are being used.  

The Cybersecurity Intern plays an important supporting role in several ongoing day to day cyber operations and projects. The intern will assist management with researching, analyzing, and evaluating cyber projects that protect the organization against cybersecurity threats. The Cybersecurity Intern will support and assist management on cyber operations and projects in support of daily operations.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Log analysis 
  • Machine reimaging (macOS and Windows) 
  • Malware/Virus removal and analysis 
  • Phishing mailbox monitoring and remediation 
  • Threat feed monitoring and updating 
  • SIEM tool incident monitoring 
  • SIEM tool dashboard/reporting creation and monitoring 
  • SOC monitoring 
  • Governance, Risk, and Compliance 
  • Present project work outcome and overview to cyber security leadership 

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Must be a current high school student.
Must be a minimum age of 16.
Must reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.
Ability to work in a team environment, coordinating with other areas to achieve goals and objectives.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills for interaction with all levels of personnel.
Basic analytical skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail, and scheduling.
Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrate an interest in a career applicable to the utility industry.
Participate in full-time employment with CPS Energy.
Attend all activities sponsored by CPS Energy during employment.
Pass a drug test and background screen prior to employment with CPS Energy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with programming and or scripting languages 
  • Familiarity with information technology (IT) principles 
  • IT Certifications 
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0
