Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry’s rapidly changing workforce needs by providing local San Antonio college students with public utility career experience. All duties will be performed under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experience that expands their understanding of how the industry works and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to be successful. The internship is not only meant for the intern to learn how to perform, but to also understand the rationale behind the strategies that are being used. 

The Occupational Health Intern will assist the Occupational Health team in the management and further development of various programs within the department to include CPR, AED, records management, ergonomics, medical surveillance, and medical supplies inventory.  Ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in a Nursing School, Medical Assistant or EMT Program, physical therapy program or interested in the medical field.  Intern will also gain hands on experience in patient care, specifically related to work related injuries and workers compensation.  Intern will also work closely with Safety Professionals in various areas enterprise wide.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the Occupational Health Team 
  • Assist with a variety of clinical duties such as assessments and vital signs, supervised by a Registered Nurse 
  • Assist with coordination for CPR requests, to include creating and closing out all courses, providing reports to various business units and paying invoices 
  • Coordinate scheduling with vendors and managers for medical surveillance programs 
  • Observe registered nurses to learn about their responsibilities, interactions, work hours 
  • Document medical histories and document interventions, supervised by a Registered Nurse 
  • Field request for Ergonomics Assessments, to include sending ergonomic request forms to employees and directing employees to ergo CBT, reviewing Ergonomic Checklist and coordinating 1:1 assessment 
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and fulfill supply requests 
  • Assist in Event Notifications, work with safety specialist on root cause analysis 
  • Participate in accommodation request with People and Culture, Management and Legal Team 
  • Maintains confidentially and privacy.  Adheres to all privacy regulations 
  • Provide communications / responses to internal and or external correspondence 
  • Assist with data entry and maintaining medical files 

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Must be currently enrolled in a related discipline.
A minimum GPA of 2.5.
Must currently reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.
Demonstrated leadership potential.
