Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry’s rapidly changing workforce needs by providing local San Antonio college students with public utility career experience. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experience that expands their understanding of how the industry works and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to be successful. The internship is not only meant for the intern to learn how to perform, but to also understand the rationale behind the strategies that are being used.

 

The Legal Services Intern will assist in Open Records Requests (ORRs), attending meetings, due diligence work, researching legal issues via Westlaw and internet, proofreading legal documents, light contract review, other projects as needed.

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Be a student enrolled in a degree seeking program
Demonstrate an interest in seeking a degree applicable to the utility industry or field of interest
Attend all activities sponsored by CPS Energy during employment.
Strong organizational, planning, multi-tasking skills to coordinate and organize multiple activities concurrently with sound judgment and initiative
Effective presentation and interpersonal skills demonstrating a positive enthusiastic attitude
Analytical and problem-solving abilities
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to grasp new concepts and methods quickly and apply what was learned in a one on one or in a class environment
Ability to work with teams under pressure and with time constraints in a calm and professional manner, coordinating with others to achieve desired results and multiple deadlines
Personal computer experience utilizing Microsoft Office to include Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas and concepts to those with less technical background
Ability to meet goals & objectives with minimal direct supervision.
Ability to accept as well as offer constructive criticism
Ability to work in a structured environment where flexibility, creativity and thinking outside the box is essential
Ability to work at any CPS Energy location within Bexar County (San Antonio, TX) or Guadalupe County (Seguin, TX), including power plant locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Seeking course work in legal studies
  • Good standing with your educational institution with a GPA of 3.0 or Higher

Working Environment
