Position Summary
The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to help meet the evolving workforce needs of the utility industry by providing San Antonio College students meaningful, hands-on experience paired with mentorship. The internship is structured to help the intern learn how work gets done in a professional environment, understand the rationale behind planning and governance practices, and build foundational skills that support career readiness. Applicants must reside in the San Antonio Metropolitan area and be currently enrolled or recently graduated to qualify.
The IT Digital Platforms team is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to support core enterprise applications solution engineering functions like software development, maintenance & operations activities on enterprise solutions supporting the Enterprise. The intern will partner with Digital Platforms team of software engineers & product managers to help maintain business continuity and new development and innovations for our business partners. This includes assisting with SDLC (Software Dev Life Cycle) various stage functions from technical documentation ,software testing, user training and application administration and support and helping other team members successfully release products and services in ongoing projects. The intern will also support improvements in operational processes, cross functional team collaboration, contributing to improving standardized processes and reliable visibility across the IT Software Solutions portfolio.

Tasks and Responsibilities
- Learn IT COE objectives and support the digital platforms software engineering team in understanding and improving core governance, reporting, and portfolio management processes.
- Collaborate with product managers. Software engineers and key stakeholders across EIT support alignment to portfolio priorities, delivery expectations, and standard ways of working.
- Support the development, maintenance, and organization of project and portfolio documentation, including charters, schedules, RAID logs, decision logs, and status updates.
- Maintain and validate portfolio data quality by checking required fields, resolving basic data gaps, and escalating issues that impact reporting accuracy.
- Support the creation and maintenance of dashboards and recurring reports by preparing data inputs, performing quality checks, and documenting assumptions and definitions.
- Entry level experience with one or more development methodologies (i.e., waterfall, Agile, Rational Unified Process – RUP, etc.)
- Support software QA testing, governance routines by preparing meeting materials, tracking decisions and follow-ups, and assisting with communications to project teams and stakeholders.
- Assist with basic risk, issue, dependency, and change tracking by maintaining logs, supporting updates from project teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying software defects-bugs, gaps, documenting opportunities, and supporting small process or reporting enhancements.
- Develop and present a final end-of-internship summary of contributions, including reporting outputs, process documentation, and improvements delivered.
- Must be able to report to the assigned worksite
