Position Summary

 

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry’s rapidly changing workforce needs by providing San Antonio college students an opportunity to be paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experiences that expands their understanding of the industry and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to succeed.  The internship is designed for the intern to learn to perform in a work environment and understand the rationale behind the strategies used.  Applicants must reside in the San Antonio Metropolitan area and are currently enrolled in school or recently graduated to qualify.  

The IT Compliance & Controls Intern is a temporary, entry-level role designed for college students interested in IT compliance, IT audit, cybersecurity, or risk management. Reporting to the Manager of IT Compliance, Controls & Oversight, the intern will support the team with IT General Controls (ITGC) testing, audit preparation, evidence collection, documentation, and basic remediation tracking. This role offers hands-on experience with compliance frameworks, audit processes, and IT control design within a regulated public utility environment. The intern will work closely with analysts across all levels to build foundational skills and gain real-world experience.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assist with ITGC testing activities under the guidance of analysts and senior staff. 
  • Support evidence collection and documentation for internal and external audits. 
  • Help track remediation activities and follow up with IT teams as directed. 
  • Participate in IT quality assurance reviews and process walkthroughs. 
  • Document procedures, controls, and audit requests with accuracy and attention to detail. 
  • Conduct basic research on compliance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. 
  • Assist in identifying potential control gaps and escalate observations to the team. 
  • Contribute to team meetings, presentations, and reporting activities. 
  • Support special projects related to IT compliance, controls, or governance. 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Must be currently enrolled in a related discipline.
A minimum GPA of 2.5.
Must currently reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.
Demonstrated leadership potential.
