Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry’s rapidly changing workforce needs by providing San Antonio college students an opportunity to be paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experiences that expands their understanding of the industry and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to succeed.  The internship is designed for the intern to learn to perform in a work environment and understand the rationale behind the strategies used.  Applicants must reside in the San Antonio Metropolitan area and are currently enrolled in school or recently graduated to qualify.  

Performs settlement support activities and associated financial and data analysis related to wholesale energy market transactions. Assists with settlement reconciliations, billing support, regulatory reporting, and analytical schedules while gaining exposure to ERCOT market operations, accounting standards, and month-end close processes.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assists with daily settlement activities related to physical and financial energy transactions with ERCOT and external counterparties. 
  • Supports the preparation and validation of settlement transactions to ensure compliance with contracts, protocols, and accounting requirements. 
  • Assists with month-end close activities, including settlement sub-ledger support and basic reconciliations. 
  • Analyzes settlement and billing data to identify variances and support accurate counterparty invoicing and payments. 
  • Gathers documentation and prepares analytical schedules and reports for internal management and regulatory purposes. 
  • Performs basic cost allocation and variance analysis using large data sets. 
  • Assists with technical research of ERCOT protocols and settlement rules to support proper implementation and documentation. 
  • Shadows analysts and managers by attending meetings related to energy settlements, accounting, and system processes. 
  • Assists with special projects and cross-functional teams as requested by management. 
  • Performs other energy accounting and settlement-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Must be currently enrolled in a related discipline.
A minimum GPA of 2.5.
Must currently reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.
