Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry’s rapidly changing workforce needs by providing local San Antonio college students with public utility career experience. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experience that expands their understanding of how the industry works and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to be successful. The internship is not only meant for the intern to learn how to perform, but to also understand the rationale behind the strategies that are being used. 

 

The Demand Side Analytics Team is looking for an Intern to join our team who will perform data analytics and process optimizations using multiple tools and techniques to provide insights of customer and energy data. The Intern will support the team efforts that quantify customer’s electric and gas requirements, quantify effects due to emerging technologies in the electric industry dynamics with customer adoption of demand response, solar, electric vehicles, and battery storage.  The intern will gain a unique blend of business and technical knowledge and have opportunity for cross functional collaboration across many areas of the company including the areas of Energy Supply & Market Operations, Technology & Product Innovation, Financial Services, Customer Strategy, and Grid Transformation.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide energy forecasting and load research solutions. 
  • Support the integration of renewable energy resources into forecasting models. 
  • Support the data refreshing and process improvement efforts related to demand side management technologies like distributed energy resources of Demand Response, Energy Storage, Distributed Generation, and Electric Vehicles. 
  • Support CPS Energy’s Demand Response program’s measurement & verification of customers voluntary reduction of electricity amounts during a conservation event.  
  • Support the Team’s validation of data inputs into the long-term forecasting models and work with other internal team members regarding data needs. 
  • Conduct research related to emerging issues, load forecasts, peak forecast, market dynamics and economic trends and support the application of use in forecasts. 
  • Analyze and process internal and external customer data. 
  • Document and communicate methods, processes, and results to the Team. 
  • Communicate and work collaboratively across the organization, supporting efforts with subject matter experts. 
  • Respond to time-sensitive requests for quantitative and qualitative analysis. 

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Must be currently enrolled in a related discipline.
A minimum GPA of 2.5.
Must currently reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.
Demonstrated leadership potential.
Self-motivated and results oriented.

Demonstrate an interest in a career applicable to the utility industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a program in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Accounting, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Working Environment
