Position Summary
Leads and supports numerous processes related to investments held by 4 Benefit Trusts, including the Pension Trust. Oversees and supports accounting function for the Benefit Trusts, including month-end close and the preparation of complex account reconciliations and associated financial analysis. Coordinates the annual external audit, including preparation of financial statements and related audit schedules and ensuring accounting is consistent with accounting and regulatory standards. Monitors and makes recommendations to strengthen CPS Energy’s internal control environment. Leads in preparing and evaluating Requests for Proposals as needed. Evaluates and monitors specific investments, including real estate, and ensures investments are in compliance with the Benefit Trusts’ Investment Policy.
Provides proactive services to business customers and management, establishes collaborative and strong relationships with operational leaders and decision makers throughout the organization. Responsibilities may include leading the project management and evaluation of financial projects, performing budgeting and financial analysis, completing complex financial reports and/or performing accounting research, to include documenting findings. This successful candidate will have superb critical thinking, exhibit a discipline and drive for complex analytics, a passion for providing exceptional financial services, demonstrate creativity and innovation by finding solutions to financial challenges including resource optimization.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Oversees accounting processes for the Benefit Trusts including month-end closing, preparation of monthly financial statements, and preparation of reconciliations to ensure accuracy of data.
Leads the annual financial audits and oversees the preparation of footnote disclosures, schedules and supporting documents.
Serves as the department’s subject matter expert for many processes.
Cross-trains and mentors less experienced analysts.
Monitors benchmarks and analyzes variances of investment performance to those benchmarks.
Oversees the accounting for real estate management activities for Benefit Trusts.
Prepares, analyzes and distributes various financial and statistical reports, to include variance explanations.
Serves as a key support member for creation and development of internal committee materials.
Assists with the documentation of meeting minutes.
Supports update of department dashboards, including calculating ratios and graphing trends.
Evaluates and recommends policies and procedures that comply with accounting and financial regulatory bodies.
Monitors and ensures compliance with policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
Monitors Benefit Trusts’ investment portfolio performance.
Manages relationships with various banks, investment managers and / or other financial institutions.
Assists with the review of contractual documentation for all service providers, investment managers and consultants.
Communicates, both in writing and verbally, to all levels of CPS Energy and external parties on concepts that may impact the organization.
Oversees the preparation and updates to desktop procedures, including flow charting and similar processes, while assessing current processes and recommending process improvements.
Plans and leads complex special projects that may require multi-functional cooperation.
Performs strategic project-based work including but not limited to legal / regulatory, finance, audit and operations.
Serve as Financial Point of Contact and trusted Financial Advisor to the Administrative Committee, which has oversight of all Benefit Trust investments.
Supports process improvement initiatives resulting in overall operating and/or reporting efficiencies. Performs other duties and serves on special project teams as assigned.

- Experience with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solutions such as SAP, PeopleSoft, or Hyperion.
- Experience with the electric or gas utility industry gained through experience at an electric / gas utility, an investment bank, consultant, or other professional service provider serving the industry.
