Position Summary
The Engineering Associate supports the safe, reliable, and cost-effective, round-the-clock operation of generation, transmission, and distribution systems. Duties include Engineering responsibilities for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation activities of our power plants, transmission lines, substations, distribution system, gas systems, control centers and others. The role emphasizes power quality and reliability by monitoring system performance, analyzing disturbances, and implementing solutions to enhance overall system reliability. Responsibilities include performing outage analytics, conducting root cause and trend analysis, and tracking reliability metrics to drive continuous improvement and reduce outage frequency and duration. The position also involves troubleshooting system issues, evaluating equipment performance in both field and operational settings, supporting maintenance and reliability programs, and contributing to process improvements that enhance overall system resilience and efficiency while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Utilizes established procedures and processes to perform assigned tasks under direct supervision
- Assisting with the development and implementation of internal work processes
- Attends seminars, continuing education opportunities for professional development
- Supports the development of reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
- Assists in troubleshooting and resolving power quality issues impacting the utility's infrastructure
- Assists in developing and maintaining preventive maintenance programs to reduce customer downtime and improve system performance
- Conducts power quality assessments and analyzes system performance data to identify areas of improvement
- Monitors and evaluates system reliability metrics, providing recommendations for improvements based on data analysis.
- Participates in the testing and commissioning of new equipment and technologies aimed at improving power quality and system reliability
- Works with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to power quality and reliability
- Develop scripts or tools to automate data collection, reporting, and analysis of power quality and reliability metrics.
- Assists in building predictive models for outage prevention, load forecasting, or equipment maintenance.
- Supports the creation of dashboards and interactive tools to track reliability indices, system performance, and power quality metrics.

Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer In Training (EIT) designation from Texas Board of Professional Engineers
- Basic experience with electric distribution or transmission systems
- Technical writing experience or college course work in technical writing
- Experience with Computer Aided-Drafting systems and Bentley Microstation software
- Experience with programming or scripting languages such as Python, R, or SQL for data analysis.
- Experience with visualization and low-code tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and Power Apps for dashboards, reports, and interactive applications.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate for operating drones in support of inspections, monitoring, or data collection.
- Familiarity with ESRI GIS software and Arc FM Designer software
- Experience with SAP and Work Manager software
