Position Summary
The Engineering Associate position holds the responsibility for the safe, reliable, and economic round-the-clock operation of the generation, electric transmission, and distribution systems. Duties include Engineering responsibilities for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation activities of our power plants, transmission lines, substations, distribution system, gas systems, control centers and others. These Engineering duties may include continuous monitoring and balancing of energy flow and responding to system disturbances, along with all generation, distribution, and transmission activities that provide electric and gas services to customers.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provide engineering and technical support to Energy Market Operations (EMO) Staff by ensuring Operation Technology (OT) applications and integrated systems work as expected so CPS Energy can effectively control and monitor its generation systems in real-time.
- Monitor, test and troubleshoot issues impacting SCADA systems and/or connectivity to remote locations.
- Responsible for validating accuracy of data and resolving identified issues.
- Ensure compliance with NERC regulations and other CPSE cybersecurity policies by managing security systems for Energy Market Operations (EMO), which includes monitoring, patching, and maintaining critical cyber assets.
- Obtain and maintain knowledge of ERCOT market data and telemetry requirements
- Review, plan, and coordinate system updates and upgrades as required.
- Design and implement SCADA solutions for commissioning additional generation resources or load contracts.
- Develop and support HMI displays to be used by market operations personnel for situational awareness.
- Attend seminars and continuing education opportunities to keep up with new technology and industry advancements.
- Utilize engineering expertise to assess challenges and develop innovative solutions.
- Provide training for new changes implemented to SCADA and other applicable systems used by Market Operations staff.
- Performs other project and process improvement initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with programming languages such as C, Perle, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Experience with OSII Monarch SCADA system
- Experience with Aveva PI system (ex: Pi Vision, PI AF, PI Analysis, PI DataLink)
- Experience with RTU communication protocols (ex: DNP or Modbus)
- Experience with ICCP communication protocol
- Experience with administrative roles with Linux and Window Operating systems.
