Position Summary
The Engineering Associate position holds the responsibility for the safe, reliable, and economic round-the-clock operation of the generation, electric transmission, and distribution systems. Duties include Engineering responsibilities for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation activities of our power plants, transmission lines, substations, distribution system, gas systems, control centers and others. These Engineering duties may include continuous monitoring and balancing of energy flow and responding to system disturbances, along with all generation, distribution, and transmission activities that provide electric and gas services to customers
Tasks and Responsibilities
Oversee major engineering projects, programs, and/or initiatives with no supervision
Plan adequate distribution circuit and power transformer capacity to serve peak demand and contingencies
Review and plan improvements projects to maintain adequate voltage and conductor loading levels for the electric distribution system
Evaluate circuit service areas and protection arrangements for improvements in efficiency and/or reliability
Monitor distribution circuit power factors and plan efficient circuit reactive power supplies
Evaluate circuit configurations for installations of automated circuit sectionalizing devices
Evaluate Distributed Generation (DG) applications and evaluate impact on the distribution system and provide remediation recommendations
Forecast demand loads after gathering information from internal sources, Chamber of Commerce, real estate planning and zoning, etc.
Develop conceptual system improvement plans and prioritize all recommended projects with appropriate need by date
Perform system protection coordination studies
Perform motor start analysis
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer In Training (EIT) designation from Texas Board of Professional Engineers
- Basic experience with electric distribution or transmission systems
- Technical writing experience or college course work in technical writing
- Experience with Computer Aided-Drafting systems and Bentley Microstation software
- Familiarity with ESRI GIS software and Arc FM Designer software
- Experience with SAP and Work Manager software
