Position Summary
Data Center Critical Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for the execution of strategic planning, ensuring reliability of critical systems, and overall data center operations. This position focuses on redundancy in critical systems including HVAC, life safety, and electrical infrastructure, in compliance with industry standards.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Schedule and oversee routine testing and preventative maintenance of electrical, HVAC and Life Safety Systems in collaboration with in-house teams and contractors.
- Document maintenance activities and ensure timely execution of corrective action based on test results.
- Participate in root cause analysis for systems failures and implement preventive measures.
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes and standards, including proper implementation of lockout tagout (LOTO) procedures for all maintenance activities.
- Develop and maintain electrical processes. EOP, SOP, MOP for electrical work.
- Manage the operation, maintenance, and optimization of HVAC systems to ensure optimal temperature and humidity levels within the data center.
- Conduct regular inspections and testing of HVAC systems documenting findings and scheduling necessary repairs or upgrades.
- Create and maintain up-to-date documentation of HVAC procedures, including emergency operating procedures or system failures.
- Ensure all life Safety systems, including fire alarm and suppression systems are fully operational and comply with local regulations.
- Participate in regular tabletop drills and training sessions for staff on emergency protocols and system functionality.
- Work with contractors to perform routine testing and inspection of Electrical, HVAC and Life Safety equipment, and documenting results.
- Implement redundancy strategies on the job site for critical systems to ensure reliability and prevent outages, including UPS systems, backup generators, and HVAC systems.
- Monitor and analyze system performance metrics to identify potential vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
- Coordinate with external contractors for specialized services, ensuring all work meets established safety standards and quality expectations.
- Review scope of work for clarity and compliance with data center policies.
- Maintain effective communication with contractors throughout project life cycles, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
- Help develop detailed processes maps for all critical systems, ensuring clarity and workflows and operational procedures.
- Help create an update SOP, MOP, and EOP for various systems and operational processes, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
- Maintain and organize repository for all documentation, making it easily accessible for staff and auditors.
- Manage the building management system (BMS) to monitor and control HVAC, lighting, and other critical infrastructure components.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Must possess a journeyman electrician license from the state of Texas.
- Comprehensive experience in data center infrastructure, with a focus on electrical systems.
- Strong knowledge of Power Distribution systems, redundancy practices, and critical infrastructure monitoring.
- Experience with uninterruptible power systems., generators, and backup systems.
- Familiarity with data center cooling systems and energy management best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to obtain a Thermographer Level 1 certificate.
