Position Summary

Performs complex account reconciliations and associated financial analysis, technical accounting research to determine proper implementation of complex accounting standards (GASB) and prepares various auditing schedules. Prepares, analyzes, and distributes monthly and ad hoc financial reports to internal and external stakeholders. Ensures all the accounting requirements for the CPS Energy investment, hedging, and debt programs are met. Responsibilities may include working with other departments such as FP&A, Debt Management, Cash and Liquidity Management or Enterprise Risk Management Solutions.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Core responsibilities focus on operational/tactical aspects of the organization and limited, if any, strategic focus.
Performs multiple financial functions to ensure the proper recording of financial results and presentation of CPS Energy’s financial results to internal and external stakeholders.

Participates in the preparation of the annual audited financial statements, footnote disclosures and management’s discussion & analysis, and other external reports.
Prepares and analyzes supporting accounting schedules and reports for annual external audits.
Prepares journal entries and performs complex account reconciliations to ensure accuracy of data and internal controls.
Prepares, analyzes, and distributes various monthly financial management reports, including variance explanations analysis.
Performs technical accounting / finance research and writes position papers to ensure documentation of implemented policies and procedures.
Completes special studies, projects, and reports as assigned on a wide variety of financial topics with varying degrees of complexity.
Consults with independent auditors and sources on accounting matters and disclosure requirements impacting financial external reporting.
Performs role of subject matter expert of the financial accounting and external reporting department different functions and areas.
Develops, maintains, and presents accounting processes and policy guidelines.
Interprets and applies organizational policy and recommends changes in procedures.
Utilizes the SAP/Oracle system for research, financial analysis and report writing.
Create automated financial and project management reports and validate the output.
Communicates financial results and responds to inquiries both in writing and verbally, to all levels and business areas/units of CPS Energy on the accounting for investments, hedging, debt management and other accounting functions.
Supports process improvement and other initiatives that result in higher levels of efficiencies, accuracy and analytics for the financial organization. 
Plans and assigns lower-level analysts to given projects or tasks.
Provides input and/or assists with the review and evaluation of lower-level personnel.
Performs other project and initiatives as assigned.

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Extensive experience as an accountant/analyst or in a related field.
Knowledge of accounting/analyst experience in a field supporting and providing financial and operational solutions.
Relative experiences in financial/project management for Operational Units.
Solid understanding of financial principles, financial statements and associated processes and tools.
Initiative to work independently or as a member of a team, coordinating with others to achieve desired results.
Experience working with moderately complex data.
High level of accuracy of work and attention to detail, to include the ability to perform precise mathematical calculations.
Exceptionally strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of a particular field of specialization to complete complex assignments.
Ability to multi-task various critical work assignments in a fast-paced environment in a professional manner.
Ability to effectively manage sensitive and confidential information.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills for interaction with all levels of personnel.

Ability to work in a variety of locations such as the field, construction centers and the main office.

This is highest level subject matter/technical expert and may include limited supervisory responsibilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or CPA.

  • Extensive experience with financial and operational analytical support.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Microsoft Excel.

  • Proficient in SAP, Oracle, Hyperion, Workiva, or PeopleSoft.

  • Relative experience in Governmental Accounting.

  • Relative experience in supporting the Electric or Gas utility industries.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with concentration in Finance, Accounting, Auditing or related field from an accredited university.

Required Certifications

Working Environment

Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. After hours and call duty work required.

Physical Demands

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
