Position Summary
The Analyst Energy Portfolio Analytics position supports quantitative analysis functions for the Energy Portfolio Analytics (EPA) section of the Energy Supply & Market Operations (ESMO) department. The role takes direction from the Manager of Generation & New Tech Planning in the EPA group. The role requires research and analysis to support planning, budgeting, and decision-making for CPS Energy generation resources. Management of data and information and communication and presentation of analysis methodologies and results are required.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Researches and provides cost and performance information for resource option modeling and decision support for all types of energy technologies such as solar, wind, gas, nuclear, energy storage, and other types of new and emerging technologies.
- Researches and provides cost and performance information for decision support of market operation transactions, including bilateral contracts, wholesale power contracts, power price forecasting, ISO settlement, and DA/RT transactions.
- Develops and manages long-range cost forecasts for energy resources, products, and other items related to resource planning.
- Researches market information and works with CPS Energy internal subject matter experts and consultants to support forecast developments.
- Stays abreast of key energy policies and regulations that may impact cost, planning and decision-making for generation resources.
- Provides analysis support on various type of projects such as new power plant projects, plant upgrade and retirement decisions and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) on solar, wind, energy storage and other types of resources.
- Coordinates with Metering, MV90, SCADA, and other areas as necessary to maintain official source records and business data repositories of current/new plant characteristics.
- Performs annual and periodic system testing for new plant implementations and/or upgrades as necessary.
- Develop and maintain models to support portfolio optimization, forecasting and analysis.
- Manages large data sets and extracts information for applications in various projects and processes.
- Utilizes computer-based business models, such as Excel, Aurora, Gen Trader, Tableau, Alteryx, and/or other tools to conduct analysis.
- Presents analysis methodologies and results to internal stakeholders, providing recommendations as needed.
- Performs other research and analysis as assigned.
- Performs tasks with occasional supervision and support from EPA Management and other senior team members.
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited university (eg. MBA, MSc)
- Experience with a full-spectrum energy management platform including deal capture, ISO operations, and settlement/billing
- Experience with market data & pricing platforms
- Knowledge and experience in energy production cost modeling and forecasting tools (eg. Aurora, GenTrader)
