Position Summary

Responsible for the day-to-day administration and ensuring that the health,, welfare, life, disability, leave of absence and retirement benefit plans operate efficiently and effectively. Responsible for ensuring that the plans remain compliant with federal and local regulations. Responsible for effectively researching, analyzing, and communicating benefits programs with employees at all levels of the organization, to include senior leadership, active and retired employees, surviving spouses, dependents and external agencies.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Performs day-to-day administration of the benefit plans.  
  • Remains informed and up to date on legislation and regulations that impact the CPS Energy benefits structure.
  • Performs assignments with expected results, due dates, and general procedures to follow.
  • Continuously learns and applies the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a particular field of specialization.
  • Some evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required.
  • Performs precise calculations based upon equations and formulas that include numerous exceptions and large sums of moneys which impact the lives of employees and their dependents. 
  • Verifies/records payroll deductions. 
  • Utilizes the SAP system for research, analysis and report writing. 
  • Communicates with plan participants, providers, and external representatives over the telephone and/or in-person. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of the various Benefit Plan documents. 
  • Aids the Manager in overseeing and monitoring special projects. 
  • Handles multiple work assignments simultaneously, meeting deadlines. 
  • Identifies, reports, and resolves benefits issues, including section process improvements and efficiencies. 
  • Tests and implements SAP Employee Benefit enhancements and other Benefit process improvements. 
  • Updates Access Port and CPS Energy Connect with current benefit information. 
  • Runs queries in SAP, analyzes data and produces benefit metrics for management. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 
     

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Understands processes and procedures in specialized field.
Has exposure to broad variety of communications with Plan participants.
Incumbent must set priorities, organize work and make occasional exceptions.
Experience in HR related field, Benefits, finance or accounting preferred.
Exceptionally strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
Ability to multi-task various critical work assignments in a fast paced environment in a professional manner.
Ability to effectively manage sensitive and confidential information.
Initiative to work independently or as a member of a team, coordinating with others to achieve desired results.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills for interaction with all levels of personnel.
Ability to meet goals and objectives with minimal direct supervision.
Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to make recommendations and independent decisions.
High level of accuracy of work and attention to detail, to include the ability to perform precise mathematical calculations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in HR related field, Benefits, finance or accounting preferred 
  • Demonstrated experience in benefits, finance or accounting
  • Experience with SAP

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance or related field from an accredited university or equivalent work experience

Required Certifications

Working Environment

Indoor work, operating comp, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computer equip, telephone, multi-functioning printer & calculator. Ability to travel to & from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events.

Physical Demands

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
