Position Summary

CPS Energy, the nation’s largest municipally-owned energy company with $11B in assets and $2B+ in revenues, has an exciting and unique opportunity for a Vice President of Technology Services to join its senior leadership team.  With an unparalleled commitment to serving our customers in the San Antonio and surrounding areas, we are looking for a highly experienced, people-centric and results-driven technology executive.

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Vice President of Technology Services primary purpose is to lead CPS Energy’s business solutions, infrastructure, technology operations, and the engineering and transport services groups.  This role will be responsible for delivering customer and business value by partnering and collaborating with leaders to shape the technology services strategy and roadmap, make investment and priority trade-off decisions, reduce operating costs, improve operational efficiency and time-to-market and to ensure reliability.
This role will also be critically focused on mentoring and developing a high performing team of technology leaders at all levels, including personal and technology strategy leadership development.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Partnership & Collaboration

  • Collaborate and build trusted relationships with senior and executive management across the company
  • Serve as trusted advisor to other executives and leaders to develop a clear understanding of business needs, ensuring cost-effective delivery of IT services to meet those needs

Strategy Development & Planning

  • Lead the development of the technology services strategy, roadmap and ensures its integration with the overall IT and enterprise strategic plans
  • Communicate clear vision for department through effective messaging and partnering with other leaders and team members ensuring technology alignment with the business
  • Articulate how strategic, emerging, and operational technologies can help CPS Energy be more successful through efficiency, profitability, customer and employee satisfaction
  • Remain current and aware of changing technology trends, regulations and laws which might impact the organization and the business
  • Provide expertise in budget planning and financial management preferably with chargeback models, ROI, & P/L 
  • Ensure business solutions and system and physical infrastructures are flexible and meet the demands of the business by maintaining and understanding of business strategies, technology capabilities and orchestrating delivery across a number of teams

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide expertise in executive leadership including personal development, coaching, mentoring, performance management, and employee engagement management
  • Develop and maintain a technology workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills and competencies
  • Hire, train, develop and appraise staff effectively.
  • Develop and maintain a People First culture where team members are enabled to take accountability, to collaborate cross-functionally, to inspire the best in each other, and to care for each other
  • Drive a strong customer service mindset within the IT team, driving strong service leadership

Technology Services and Operations

  • Lead and manage the implementation of new systems, applications, physical infrastructure and platforms
  • Ensure the reliability, performance, security, efficiency and effectiveness of all assets under management
  • Review, approve and enforce proactive and preventative IT policies and procedures including those for security, disaster recovery, architecture, purchasing, application development, lifecycle maintenance, release management, asset management, vendor management, incident management, etc.
  • Manage daily operations of IT support services, creating internal and external service-level agreements
  • Responsible for service desk, data center operations, telecommunications, network operations, transport services,  production support, vendor management, outsourcing services and security support services
  • When applicable, serve as the Data Privacy Officer for the organization
  • Partner with internal and external technology system providers to plan for short term and future needs; Partner with Procurement in vendor identification and negotiations for required services
  • Lead key internal IT resources and outsourced vendors to drive transformation and continuous improvements to deliver on enterprise objectives.
  • Keep up-to-date on information technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation.
  • Coordinate with IT leadership and internal audit in responding to regulatory or auditing requests. Implement and manage governance processes that result in effective controls and alignment between the internal business and IT partners.

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Significant experience in information technology

Demonstrated progressive leadership experience to include proven experience in senior leadership roles

Skilled in organizational development, strategic planning and implementation

Experience leading and developing a staff of 100+ associates

Experience working with and providing support for large contact centers preferred

Experience with cloud services and platforms investments

Experience with RP and CRM platforms from a strategic, functional, technical perspective

Knowledge of security strategies and techniques

Demonstrated knowledge of application development process on proprietary platforms

Experience with networking, telecommunication, transport, messaging and data administration concepts

Significant experience with Lean Application Stacks, Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Windows Servers, Internet Information Server, SANs, Linux, Apache, backup systems, network and security

Successful experience implementing and managing ITIL, ITSM, DevOps, SAFe Agile, Continuous Integration, IT Portfolio Management, and/or other similar frameworks

Demonstrated knowledge of Data Governance and Standards

Excellent facilitation, collaboration, communication and presentations skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or comparable fields
  • Significant experience in Digital Experience and/or Omni Channel development

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or comparable fields or equivalent work experience

Work is performed indoors & outdoors. Manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of computing equipment, telephone, & printer/copier. Ability to travel to and from business related events. After hours work may be required.
