Position Summary
Conducts boiler water chemistry sampling and analysis; water purification equipment operation and analysis, cooling water treatment and analysis and coal and limestone slurry sampling and analysis. Provides recommendations for effective operation of high pressure boilers and associated equipment. Monitors delivery of bulk hazardous chemicals.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Monitors product quality to ensure compliance to standards and specifications.
- Collects liquid and solid samples in industrial environment.
- Sets up, conducts, and interprets chemical tests and analyses using techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, physical and chemical separation techniques and microscopy.
- Operates reverse osmosis, ion exchange, electro deionization(EDI), Condensate Polishing, and other water purification equipment designed to produce high purity makeup water for the steam cycle.
- Test, compile, interpret, monitor and chemically treat the chemistry in the following systems: closed cooling systems, open loop cooling systems, boiler, steam, condensate, condenser, chiller, wastewater, Flue Gas Desulfurization(FGD), coal, and other water and steam equipment that CPS Energy is responsible for. Collects liquid and solid samples in industrial environment.
- Provides and maintains a safe working environment by participating in safety programs, committees or teams and by conducting laboratory and plant safety audits.
- Prepares chemical solutions such as standards and reagents for testing processes following standardized formulas and instruction.
- Maintains, cleans and sterilizes laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Writes technical reports or prepares graphs and charts to document test results.
- Provides technical support and assistance to plant operations, engineers and chemists.
- Orders inventory materials to maintain supplies.
- Analyze the coal (mill fineness, BTU, sulfur) and fuel oil (sulfur, BTU) for CPS as well as monitor and report chemistry of the FGD systems
- Enter confined spaces for inspections on major equipment such as condensers and tanks, etc.
- Monitor off-loading of bulk hazardous chemicals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a chemical control lab
- Knowledge of work order notification processes in SAP
- Power Plant water chemistry experience and knowledge of power plant systems preferred
- CPS Energy approved water treatment experience
