Position Summary

The Design Services Supervisor of Customer Engineering performs daily supervision of work request processes for assigned designers/constractors to ensure that established metrics for due dates, cycle times, etc. are met.  Enforcing standardized procedures, guidelines, process maps, metrics/KPIs, etc. for the area.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Reinforces a culture of exceptional customer service with assigned designers.
• Recommends improvements for enhancing business efficiencies and exceeding customer expectations.
• Supervises a team that coordinates and plans the design and construction of electric and gas service installations, upgrades, remodels and line extensions for services.
• Handles customer issues that arise within projects being managed by the services team.
• Attends plan review meetings, other customer meetings and performs site visits as needed.
• Train designers in applicable aspects of the established processes, design standards, construction standards, electric and gas line extension policies and computer programs such as WMIS, SAP, Designer/GIS, etc.
• Reviews job sketches using Designer/GIS.
• Verifies accurate contributions in Aid of Construction (CIAC) for customer jobs.
• May assist managers in developing section budgets and operate within established targets using latest estimate practices.
• May need to review and approve invoices submitted by contractor firms or agencies.
• Engages designers daily in safety efforts such as safety awareness and compliance with safety policies and procedures.
• Receives and returns customer phone calls.
• Reviews and approves time off for vacation and illness.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of SAP
A valid Texas driver’s license with a history of safe driving record in accordance with CPS Energy policies, procedures, safety standards and applicable laws and regulations
OR a valid driver’s license form another state with the ability to obtain a Texas license within 60 days
Effective oral and written communication skills
Exceptional customer service skills
Ability to work with PC software applications (Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.)
Exceptional interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work as a team player
Ability to manage priorities and work in high pressure situations
Ability to work independently and make sound business decisions

Minimum Skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Overhead & Underground electric distribution design and Construction standards
  • Knowledge of Designer/GIS and WMIS
  • Knowledge of three-phase underground electric distribution design and Construction standards
  • Knowledge of Downtown Network design and Construction standards
  • Knowledge of Gas design and Construction standards
  • Knowledge of Electric Service Standards
  • Knowledge of Electric and Gas Line Extension Policies
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Minimum Education

Working Environment

Work is performed indoors & outdoors. Manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of computing equipment, telephone, & printer/copier. Ability to travel to and from business related events. After hours work may be required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day.
The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception & ability to adjust focus. Work indoors & outdoors in extreme temp to the extent of the weather conditions.
