Position Summary

Reporting to the VP of Corporate Communications & Marketing, the Senior Director of Corporate Communications & Marketing will lead the development and execution of CPS Energy’s comprehensive marketing, public relations, and internal/external communications strategies, as well as ensure operational excellence and process execution. The Senior Director of Corporate Communications & Marketing will work with the team to develop world-class internal and external communications plans for CPS Energy, directly managing communications activities that promote, enhance, and protect the Company’s brand reputation. The Senior Director of Corporate Communications & Marketing is responsible for the development, integration, and implementation of a broad range of marketing, public relations, and internal communications activities to steer the strategic direction and elevate the organization’s position  across the community, region and industry. This individual is an ambassador for the organization and will build effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including media. 

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic marketing and communications plan to advance CPS Energy’s brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs, products, services, and priorities; and increase the visibility of its programs across key stakeholder audiences.
  • Create communications and marketing strategies that will allow CPS Energy to cultivate and enhance meaningful stakeholder relationships with targeted audiences, including customers, employees, media and key stakeholders.
  • Enhance the reputation, trust and credibility of the CPS Energy brand.
  • Ensure consistency and alignment of core messaging to brand and culture.
  • Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization, work with leadership team and staff to recognize internal and external marketing and communications opportunities and solutions and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them. 
  • Operations: 
  • Exercise judgment to assist the team in prioritizing media opportunities, and prepare talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting material as needed.
  • Implement best practices for marketing and communications to ensure CPS Energy is an industry leader in executing successful programs.
  • Create an iterative, integrated communications plan to maximize effectiveness.
  • Develop and execute a tracking system to evaluate metrics for all communications and marketing programs, campaigns and channels.
  • Work directly with partner communications and advertising agencies to support campaigns and initiatives.                         
  • Team Development and Management: 
  • Ensure team is delivering value, while being responsive and flexible.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the Corporate Communications & Marketing team, including budgeting, planning, staff development, and succession planning.
  • Recruit and manage appropriate Corporate Communications & Marketing team members to support the development and execution of the marketing and communications strategy.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis.
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments.

Experience in corporate communications and marketing with demonstrated experience and leadership in managing comprehensive strategic plans to advance an organization’s mission and goals.
Demonstrated experience in understanding external, community environments.
Experience in crisis communications.
Demonstrated proficiency using social media platforms.
Established relationships with reporters, locally and nationally.
Knowledge in leveraging customer insights to enhance customer experience and CPS Energy brand.
Experience with the integration of digital marketing into campaigns.
Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships.
Innovative thinker, with a track record of translating strategic thinking into action plans and output.
Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching teams.
Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
Superior management skills with the ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.
Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive leader.
Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to effectively interface with CPS Energy’s senior management, Board of Trustees, and staff.
Ability to explain and translate complex concepts into information customers and the community can understand.
Experience in using various communications programs to execute and track communications efforts (e.g. Hootsuite, Cision, PR Newswire).
Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker.
Excellent and persuasive communicator.
Thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a business planning capacity and business operations including budget management.
  • Leadership and management experience, which may be through formal supervisory experience or informally.
  • Certifications in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, preferred.

Minimum Education

B.A./B.S. degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or equivalent.

Required Certifications

Working Environment

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.

Physical Demands

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
