Position Summary

The Claims Team works to achieve equitable resolutions of general liability and auto liability claims made against CPS Energy and of cost recovery claims made by CPS Energy against third parties that provide value to customers and CPS Energy. A Claims Representative’s primary role is to support the Claims Team’s goals by investigating, analyzing, and recording facts to resolve such claims.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Supports the Claims Team’s goals by investigating, analyzing, and recording facts to resolve general liability and auto liability claims made against CPS Energy and of cost recovery claims made by CPS Energy against third parties that provide value to customers and CPS Energy.
  • Creates reports and provides statistics for claims reporting for management, appraisals, risk management purposes.
  • Negotiates settlements with claimants, attorneys and insurance companies.
  • Prepares internal and external written communication to claimants, contractors, attorneys, medical providers, and insurance companies.
  • Monitors and audits assigned claims to ensure proper file documentation.
  • Effectively direct other CPS Energy departmental employees during the course of an investigation.
  • Utilizes claims software for claim file management.
  • Organizes and prioritizes workload and monitor Liability and Cost Recovery claims to ensure a timely response to attorneys, insurance companies, contractors, and claimants.
  • Performs other tasks, projects, and process improvement initiatives as assigned.

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Basic knowledge of gas and electric system terminology and the functions of the CPS Energy gas and electric system or similar equivalent experience.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills for interaction with all levels of personnel.
Effectively handle challenging customers.
Possess strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
Basic math skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database management, presentation software, electronic mail, and scheduling.
Proficient in SAP and MDS system or similar systems.
Ability to maintain detailed statistical data and prepare reports.
Ability to effectively negotiate settlements.
Initiative to work independently or as a member of a team, coordinating with others to achieve desired results.
Work with minimum supervision.
Ability to exercise absolute confidentiality regarding claims investigations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in Spanish speaking and reading.
  • Obtain a Texas Multi-line or Property & Casualty Adjusters License within 90 days from date of hire.

Minimum Education

High School Diploma or GED

Required Certifications

Working Environment

Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Ability to complete field investigations, travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business related events. After hours work or call duty may be required.

Physical Demands

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
