Position Summary

A Power Quality Specialist acts as a technical liaison for all CPS Energy customers ranging from residential to the largest consumers that including Commercial, Industrial, Governmental, and Manufacturing. The PQ specialist engages in a large variety of tasks that include electrical investigations, load profiling, Infrared Inspections, Customer site analysis, and technical solutions recommendations. Tasks and Responsibilities
- Ensures all distribution level voltages are within prescribed guidelines set forth by the Public Utility Commission of Texas. This includes the point of demarcation or where the customer's electrical system connects to the Utility’s. Through analysis and monitoring system level voltage by leveraging the AMI meter dashboard.
- Directs testing activities throughout the power delivery process from Generation to final customer on the electrical distribution system.
- Monitors performance of voltage control systems to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance with PUC guidelines. Responsible for troubleshooting and creating a solution in the event of voltage deviation from PUCT Standard.
- Oversees work activities of cross-functional resources engaged in remediation of power quality issues. Including directing field crews to perform corrective maintenance on distribution automation devices.
- Assists in the analysis of power quality monitoring results and provides feedback (reporting) and interpretation (knowledge transfer) to management, staff, and customers. Creating reporting that includes layman verbiage for easy dissemination.
- Communicates power quality information to all relevant organizational departments, outside vendors, or contractors.
- Assists manager with Account Management and Customer Service departments to define client requirements and expectations.
- Monitors distribution equipment sensors and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems.
- Creates and implements inspection and testing criteria or procedures for Distribution Automation devices, including voltage regulators and distributive energy resources such as Solar, Energy storage batteries, or Electric Vehicles.
- Investigate and recommend corrections for Radio Frequency Interference complaints affecting customers (FCC regulation)
- Investigate power quality issues internally and externally at customer locations ranging from residential to Large-scale users such as Manufacturing plants.
- Directs power quality improvement plans and measurement strategies.
- Documents testing procedures, methodologies, or criteria for ensuring CPS Energy meets PUCT standards for voltage delivery.
- Responsible for running reporting features of PQ View software for daily PQ analytics.
- Perform Infrared Inspections at customers' locations to determine possible component failures before they occur. Leveraging infrared cameras and thermographic training. Create detailed reporting for the customer summarizing the findings.
- Identifies critical points in the distribution system and specifies voltage sampling procedures to be used at these points.
- Adjusts controls to regulate the efficient flow of power between substations and customer service points.
- Communicates with systems operators to regulate and coordinate line voltages of the distribution system.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
