Position Summary

Provides and maintains extremely accurate, secure and reliable Remote SCADA field devices for all of CPS Energy’s master SCADA systems and external customers.  

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Facilitates and leads the Remote SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) Systems section and collaborates across multiple departments working as a cross functional team between the Electric EMS (energy management system) & DMS (distribution management system), Renewable Energy, Fossil Generation and Gas transmission & distribution systems. 
  • Maintains all renewable energy, gas, fossil generation and electric SCADA project work to make sure deadlines are met while ensuring safety remains at the forefront of all work. 
  • Facilitates and Leads by example Safety initiatives and meetings. 
  • Ensures all NERC/CIP and other compliance regulations pertaining to area are met and followed. 
  • Ensures that all Remote SCADA System failures are immediately reported and replaced in order to provide the most accurate real-time data 24/7/365. 
  • Ensures SLA - Service Level Agreements are performed as agreed upon. 
  • Attends project pre-planning meetings for all electric, gas and generation project work. 
  • Maintains all SCADA equipment assets used on the Renewable Energy, Gas, Fossil Generation and Electric Transmission, Substation & Distribution systems 
  • Manages personnel issues such as equity adjustments, job descriptions, position evaluations, performance appraisals, vacations, sick leave, conflict mediator, training and etc. 
  • Ensures all maintenance and new high-profile project work is completed in a timely manner such as Solar and Wind Farms, JBSA Microgrid and FLISR, Downtown Network SCADA, and CoSA Airport Station Service Automatic Throw-overs. 
  • Stays current with SCADA vendor equipment releases, developing technologies and industry trends especially as related to Cybersecurity and Safety to provide solutions and process improvements for business benefits and efficiencies. 
  • Monitors the purchasing and overtime in the section to help keep O&M to a minimum and capital spending within the budgeted amounts. 
  • Develops and oversee the Remote SCADA capital and O&M budget and provides costs to the electric, gas, renewable energy and fossil generation engineering groups. 
  • Manages the vendor equipment contracts for the electric, gas and generation SCADA equipment including vendor’s equipment lead times. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Experience of maintenance or design in various SCADA systems, relays, meters, transformers, or other technical infrastructure and project management
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling, MS Project, Visio
Strong people and leadership skills with bias for a collaborative working style
Ability to set priorities, organize work and make occasional exceptions.
Ability to work in a team environment, coordinating with other areas to achieve goals and objectives.
Strong technical skills with the ability to organize, coordinate, and track multiple simultaneous projects
Valid Class C Texas Driver's License
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to multi-task various critical work assignments in a fast paced environment in a professional manner

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas
  • Proficient with DNP3, SEL, and Modbus protocols
  • Proficient with basic networking functions

Minimum Education

Associates or Bachelors degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field from an accredited university

Working Environment

Work is performed both indoors & outdoors. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Employee may potentially be exposed to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather (i.e., heat, cold, rain), noisy and dusty environment. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business related events.
After hours work will be required as needed to support emergency conditions and planned work.

Physical Demands

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
