Position Summary

The Platform Operations & Engineering team provides consolidated operational support for CPS Energy enterprise infrastructure technology comprising server, storage, OS, virtualization, and monitoring technologies. The manager for the team Develops strategy, identifies IT changes that impact business process  Services supported by his team includes Server and Virtualization support, Storage support, Storage Network Fabric and Switching, Security and NERC compliance, Systems and Monitoring, Process services support, and scripting.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Manage and integrated multiple EIT support teams and services including Server Storage Windows, Server Storage UNIX and Production Monitoring Control teams into a unified Converged Infrastructure Operations team, providing NERC/non-NERC foundational Server/OS technology support.
  • Utilize the principles of service management to continually improve support processes and procedures for effectiveness and efficiency. Provide proactive strategic leadership and helped drive transformational changes within the team with visible high impact on improvement to operational support practices and stronger customer service orientation.
  • Managed infrastructure support operations for technology service delivery, ensuring reliability, availability and security of EIT systems that includes AIX, Red Hat Linux, Microsoft Windows Server OS landscape, Microsoft Active directory, Microsoft Exchange Server, VMware, Citrix, Symantec, and converged infrastructure.
  • Responsible for infrastructure technology audit readiness, internal controls, compliance risk identification and reporting for NERC systems. Collaborate with Compliance and Security teams to ensure regulatory obligations for technology cyber assets are compliant with all NERC & CIP standards, ERCOT protocols and TRE regulatory guidelines. Protect the infrastructure technology platforms from security vulnerabilities.
  • Ensured procedures and the right tools are effectively utilized by my team for operational responsibilities in managing technology lifecycle from deployment to decommission, proactive monitoring & alerting, system log management & reviews, capacity planning & allocation as well as configuration change awareness notifications to minimize business disruptions.  
  • Manage technology vendor relationships with a strong goal of achieving cost savings and beneficial terms to CPS Energy, this includes ensuring opportunities for reduction in maintenance cost renewals are pursued.
  • Collaborates with Compliance and Security execution: Provides direction, guidelines and procedures for the OS patching and vulnerability protection (security software including anti-virus) for servers.
  • Define, analyze & report on key metrics such as incidents, service requests, SLA’s, quality of service, support response/resolution times for services & activities delivered to internal customers in order to measure trends & service effectiveness & ensure consistent delivery against these key performance indicators (KPI’s).
  • Developed and maintain a high performing team, by striving for full employee engagement and creating effective individualized development plan, encouraging inter and intra team collaboration, soliciting input on team initiatives and objectives while providing positive feedback to staff on accomplishments with focus on creating a highly engaged and service-oriented organization.
  • Frequently coordinate, collaborate & partner with cross functional EIT groups including, Business Applications, Enterprise Architects, Project Delivery Office, Operations/End User support & other Operations/Infrastructure teams for delivery of technology services to internal customers.
  • Assist in the development & management of budgeting & finances,purchasing and O&M budgets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
     

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Experience in management (people).
Experience in Information Technology Systems and Storage Administration.
Solid foundation experience in UNIX (HP-UX, AIX, Redhat Linux Enterprise Linux and/or Solaris) and/or Microsoft Windows system administration.
Experience in Enterprise-level Storage Administration.
Knowledge in System Backup utilizing enterprise class backup platform such as Comm Vault, EMC Data Protection Suite.
Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License in good standing.
Pass all required CPS Energy and NERC background testing.
Ability to work after hours when necessary.
Experience in Server & Storage Virtualization Administration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Information Technology or related field from an accredited university.
  • IT Process Management Experience (ITIL, SOX, SAS).
  • Knowledge of the business requirements of the ERCOT Energy Market (Zonal and Nodal).
  • Knowledge of SAP, Work Management, Meter Data Management and/or Utility EMS/GMS/OMS/DMS/Gas SCADA/GIS/Mobile Data Management business requirements.
  • Knowledge of converged infrastructure.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance for the following but not limited to NERC, HIPPA, PCI and COBIT 5 Framework.
  • Certifications applicable to infrastructure operations, Information Management, or Information Technology.
  • Strong planning and analytical skills; ability to assess complex situations, make decisions and manage projects from start to a positive outcome.
  • Excellent problem solving and thought leadership skills; able to quickly understand the big picture, but also to “dive deep” when appropriate.
  • Operates successfully in highly ambiguous situations where success is not known to be readily achievable.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field from an accredited university.

Required Certifications

Working Environment

Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business related events.
