Position Summary
The Power Generation Manager of Mechanical Projects leads a team of Project Managers and Professional Engineers to provide technical guidance and support, Regulatory Compliance support (NERC, TCEQ, ERCOT, Texas RE, State of Texas), Asset Program Development, and monitors direct reports while they perform their duties in support of the Power Plants. Interacts with plant management, contracted staff, and craft personnel to ensure their needs are met. Oversees the Mechanical Boiler Compliance and Welding Programs to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation of power plant boilers. Interacts with outside vendors, suppliers, engineering consultants, etc. with the goal of achieving and surpassing targets set for mechanical projects and programs as described in the Business Plan document for Power Generation and the Capital and O&M budgets. Assignments are broad and complex in nature requiring originality, ingenuity, and leadership. This position uses specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise to recommend best practices and propose innovative solutions to solve complex problems. Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Leads and develops a team of highly technical Project Managers and Professional Engineers who follow defined best practices for project and program value delivery.
- Leads development and management of mechanical power plant programs within PG to include but not limited to the Welding Program, High Energy Piping Program, Flow Accelerated Corrosion and Corrosion Under Insulation Program, Boiler Code Compliance Program, Bridge and Dam Inspection Programs, Asset Corrosion Protection Program.
- Provides specialized mechanical and welding engineering consultation and trouble-shooting to the Power Generation operations and maintenance organization in the areas of boiler repairs, boiler tuning, scrubber operation, coal mill operation, etc.
- Leads Project Managers and Professional Engineers to plan and execute (end to end) Mechanical Power Generation O&M and Large Capital Projects. This includes initiation, routing, and planning of mechanical O&M and Capital Projects through the standard Power Generation project management process.
- Demonstrates leadership and establishes trust within Power Generation, engineering teams, and with business partners. Models the behaviors necessary to define, deploy and deliver project results that meet PG leadership expectations.
- Develops effective partnerships with PG leadership and stakeholders to ensure there is clear direction regarding project initiation, prioritization, approval, and design/specifications for each project.
- Provides technical assistance to direct reports for Capital and O&M projects.
- Demonstrates an understanding of practicing and incorporating organizational change leadership into project planning & plant program methodologies.
- Manages capital and O&M budgets within established targets.
- Coordinates development of future O&M and capital projects.
- Responsible for ensuring Power Plant Technical Support and Subject Matter Expertise is available in the Mechanical field.
- Leads process improvement teams related to improving project delivery.
- Performs leadership role/coordination on selected short-term and long-term studies for Power Plant facilities.
- Provides assistance, support and management of engineering studies led by section members or outside engineering consultants.
- Manage and/or lead Root Cause Analysis Teams for PG Operational Events
- Accountable for oversight and execution of Regulatory Compliance related tasks and audit responsibilities.
- Develops and institutionalizes a culture of Safety awareness and exceptional Customer Service.
- Builds relationships, fosters teamwork, and cultivates accountabilities for reaching milestones and adhering to deadlines.
- Supervision over all Engineering roles up to and including Principal Engineer.
- Completes performance evaluation for direct reports.
- Supports customer relations as required.

Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
- Advanced degree in an appropriate discipline or Engineering degree.
- Power plant operations, maintenance, or engineering experience.
- Resource Planning and Scheduling.
- Regulatory Compliance experience.
- Demonstrated organizational design, data analysis, business planning, negotiation, problem-solving, critical thinking skills.
