Position Summary

This role is responsible for leading a team of analysts and developers who support a specialized Geographical Information Systems (GIS) environment for CPS Energy.  The person will also help develop strategy and execution roadmap for spatial technology with a focus on utility operations.  Maintaining alignment with stakeholders across the organization to collaborate on improvements to the GIS environment, and introducing innovative products that increase efficiencies and deliver value are included in the position responsibilities.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Partnership & Collaboration

  • Collaborate and build trusted relationships with peers. 

  • Serve as trusted advisor to other leaders to develop a clear understanding of business needs for GIS-related products, ensuring cost-effective delivery of IT services to meet those needs. 

Strategy Development & Planning

  • Contribute to the development of GIS product technology strategy and roadmap. 

  • Communicate clear vision for department through effective messaging and partnering with other leaders and team members ensuring technology alignment with the business.

  • Articulate how emerging and operational GIS technologies can help CPS Energy be more successful through efficiency.

  • Remain current and aware of changing GIS technology trends.

  • Contribute to budget planning and financial management.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Support team members in their professional development, including coaching, mentoring, performance management, and employee engagement management.

  • Hire, train, develop and appraise staff effectively. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policies.

  • Drive a strong customer service mindset within the IT team, driving strong service leadership.

GIS Product Support

  • Lead team engaged in designing, maintaining, and producing geospatial data and maps while utilizing GIS for geospatial planning and analysis work. 

  • Plan, develop, and implement databases and applications and provides expertise with GIS modeling, data analysis, and integration of overlays, tables, and maps.

  • Delegate and prioritize work assignments following departmental objectives.

  • Monitor production standards and capabilities and ensure adequate quality and quantity of work.

  • Develop and organize in-service training programs designed to familiarize staff members with new and updated GIS and geospatial techniques and methods.

  • Monitor budget for team, including projects, training, software maintenance. 

  • Develop and maintain relationships with peers and stakeholders across the company.

  • Drive the team forward with innovative product enhancements and improvements leading to business efficiencies.

  • Participate and contribute to professional associations, conferences in the field of GIS technology.

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Extensive experience with Geographic Information Systems at the whole performance level designing, maintaining, and producing geospatial data and map production, including the use of Esri's ArcGIS suite of software products or similar GIS software.
Demonstrated team leadership and management of Esri's suite of ArcGIS software products (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox),
Technical proj mgmnt exp directing Geographic Information Sys activities involving professional-level expertise in the design, development, implementation, & administration of geographic information sys, incl analysis, database development, & integration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with creating, deploying, configuring, and scaling applications in Azure.
  • Design, development, and operational experience with highly available, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems.
  • Certification as a GIS Professional (GISP) by the GIS Certification Institute.
  • Proficient in foundation, People Leadership, vendor management, service & delivery, and business leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrate a team-oriented, goal and results-driven work ethic.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or univ w/ major coursework in geography, urban planning, spatial analytics, geographic infor sys, comp science, mgmt infor sys, eng, landscape architecture, including GIS coursework, or related degree.

Required Certifications

Working Environment

Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, and calculator.
Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events. Work nights, weekends, and Holidays on an As-Needed basis.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
