Position Summary

The Advanced Analytics & Intelligence (A2I) team is a center of excellence that provides data-driven solutions through advanced analytic techniques to a broad spectrum of CPS Energy operations and functions.  The successful ML Engineer candidate will be someone who is never satisfied with doing things “the way they have always been done”, lays awake at night thinking of ways to twist data to gain new insights and very importantly not only is able to write the code to execute that vision but is able to partner with business leaders and act as SME to develop a deeper understanding of the problem. He/she will help the organization articulate how the opportunity fits into the products pipeline in terms of desired customer outcomes, benefit estimation, and required technical roadmap for quick and iterative product solutions. Lastly, the ML Engineer will be quite an observant of human experiences when interacting with our organization’s or team’s products to later incorporate this feedback into the product roadmap

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Translates complex analytical and technical concepts to non-technical employees. Enable understanding and drive informed business decisions so that more resources can be assigned to our team to deliver on the Data Transformation Strategy.
  • Partners with business leaders across the organization. Define business or customer problems and questions so that we can assess the opportunity fit and articulate and refer the most promising opportunities for product management.
  • Serves as key resource and Subject Matter Expert (SME) on cross functional teams. Understand interconnected complex work critical to the organization so that we can assure the product solution has considered multiple business/IT angles and risks.
  • Brings a deep understanding of data science analytical tools (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Alteryx, Oracle SQL, Jupyter Notebooks, Python, etc.) Able to iterate fast so that we can reduce “time-to-market” of our products.
  • Builds large and complex information sets, integrating and extracting relevant information from large amounts of both structured and unstructured data. Untap the full power of data so that we make sure our customer-specific preferences are accounted for.
  • Conducts advanced analytics leveraging predictive modeling, machine learning, simulation, optimization and other techniques. Deliver insights or develop analytical solutions such that we achieve and measure business objectives.
  • Builds and maintains a robust library of reusable algorithms and supporting code. Create products based on the highest quality data, that are transparently conducted, and able to be productionized and reproduced so that our business partners can trust us.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Experience of Business Problem Framing, Analytics Problem Framing, Data, Methodology Selection, Model Building, Deployment, Lifecycle Management.
Proficiency of statistical techniques and concepts
Proficiency in Python and SQL
Experience transforming data using database querying (SQL) and dataframe classes
Experience in advanced data modeling (e.g. Alteryx, Apache Spark, API consumption, advanced SQL)
Experience in predictive modeling, large data analysis and computer science
Experience with machine learning APIs/libraries: SparkML, Scikit-learn, H2O.ai, Tensorflow, PyTorch
Experience using advanced data visualization techniques
Desire to make a difference in customer experience or electric/gas business operations
Excellent communication skills to coordinate between different teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of Associate Certified Analytics Professional (aCAP) certification
  • PhD degree with coursework in advanced Machine Learning techniques (Natural Language Processing, Deep Neural Networks, etc).
  • Knowledge of product management and continuous improvement
  • Knowledge of stochastic modeling, machine learning, and other advanced mathematical techniques (e.g. neural nets, prescriptive simulation, graph analysis)
  • Knowledge of reinforced learning, knowledge graphs and graph databases, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), semi-supervised learning, multi-task learning is a plus.

Minimum Education

Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Quantitative Economics, Statistics, or related field from an accredited university

Working Environment

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Employee may potentially be exposed to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, noisy and dusty environment. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. After hours work may be required.

Physical Demands

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.
