Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry’s rapidly changing workforce needs by providing San Antonio College students an opportunity to be paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experiences that expands their understanding of the industry and exposes
them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to succeed. The internship is designed for the intern to learn how to perform in a work environment and understand the rationale behind the strategies used. Applicants must reside in the San Antonio Metropolitan area and are currently enrolled in school or recently graduated to qualify.

 

The Grid Modernization Intern will work under the guidance of a Grid Modernization Engineer mentor. The key function will be to support the development and implementation of strategies to modernize the electrical grid. The intern will work closely with the Grid Modernization team and other stakeholders to understand the current state of the grid and identify opportunities to improve its reliability, security, and efficiency. The intern will be responsible for conducting research and analysis to support the team's initiatives, including data collection, modeling, and program coordination. Additionally, the intern will assist in the preparation of reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Conducting research and analysis to identify opportunities for grid modernization, including data collection, modeling, and simulation.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of strategies to modernize the electrical grid, such as the integration of renewable energy sources and the deployment of smart grid technologies.
  • Collaborating with the Grid Modernization team and other stakeholders to understand the current state of the grid and identify potential challenges and opportunities.
  • Supporting the preparation of reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Participating in meetings and workshops to learn about the latest developments in the energy industry and the field of grid modernization.
  • Assisting with the development of project plans, timelines, and budgets.
  • Assisting with the coordination of project activities, including working with contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with other departments and stakeholders to ensure grant-funded programs arein compliance with grant requirements.
  • Providing support for grant-funded program evaluations, including data collection and analysis.

Minimum Skills

Personal Computer Usage

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Must be currently enrolled in a related discipline.
A minimum GPA of 2.5.
Must currently reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.
