Position Summary
The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry’s rapidly changing workforce needs by providing local San Antonio college students with public utility career experience. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experience that expands their understanding of how the industry works and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to be successful. The internship is not only meant for the intern to learn how to perform, but to also understand the rationale behind the strategies that are being used.
The ERP Transformation Team is seeking a Business Planning intern to assist with the Enterprise Resource Planning design and implementation support activities. The intern will support a range of planning activities across the ERP Transformation Team, ensuring alignment with key objectives. This includes collaborating with various functions such as Strategic Planning, Resource Management, Financial and Budget Planning, and Governance key responsibilities include supporting analysis in designing, developing, and implementing both team-wide and business unit-specific plans, as well as tracking performance metrics and target achievement through regular reporting and analysis.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assist with learning ERP transformation objectives and support the team in understanding and refining business planning processes.
- Collaborate with team members across different areas to ensure alignment with ERP project goals and objectives.
- Support the development and maintenance of project documentation for various ERP transformation tasks.
- Learn and apply intermediate Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables) to perform data analysis and assist with reporting on ERP project metrics.
- Create and update process flow diagrams and organizational charts using Microsoft Visio to visualize ERP workflows and project changes.
- Document key action items, decisions, and follow-up steps during team meetings and ensure timely distribution of meeting notes to relevant stakeholders.
- Support financial modeling efforts by working with sanitized data to track and manage project budgets, helping to forecast spending and resource allocation. ·
- Assist the finance team with variance analysis by comparing actual spending to budget forecasts and contributing to financial reporting for ERP leadership.
- Learn about governance structures in ERP projects and assist in the creation and updating of governance-related documents, including project charters and decision logs.
- Participate in governance meetings, documenting key outcomes and preparing reports to communicate update and decisions to stakeholders.
- Assist Resource Management with creating and updating role descriptions for team members, as well as supporting the onboarding process and maintaining key organizational documentation such as contact lists and org charts.
- Develop and present a final project summarizing contributions to ERP transformation efforts, including data analysis, process improvements, and business planning support
