Position Summary

This is a temporary position involving various duties that permit exposure to the student’s field of study and or/provide experience that is useful addition to the student’s education and meaningful preparation for future professional employment. Under immediate direction and under work guidance of Mentor, assist and supports departments in development of business projects.

Essay 1: What are your career skills  &  Interests and how are they relevant to CPS Energy?

  • You should clearly explain what skills or methods you have learned/obtained through your previous jobs or classes, as well as your current career interests and its relevance to CPS Energy.
  • Include how you believe these skills will be useful to you in completing the work required of you during your internship experience, as well as what career you are pursuing or would like to pursue, the objective of the career, and why you are so interested in this particular field.
  • Simply stating that you are studying a topic and enjoy it will not carry nearly the same weight as describing specific examples. lastly, use examples and remember to explain how you can apply these skills throughout the CPS Energy internship, and how the career is relevant to CPS Energy.

Essay 2: Safety in the Workplace

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • High quality professional day-to-day execution of special projects
  • Assist in brainstorming and idea planning
  • Network-Meet a variety of people in your chosen profession through your internship, allowing you to form relationships you can build on in the future
  • Learn and master internal operations, including but not limited to accounting, event planning, finance, human resources, payroll, marketing, relationship building, customer service, sales, daily operations, etc
  • Identify areas for process improvement
  • Make recommendations to leadership for streamlining systems and processes
  • Research and implement solutions for enhanced efficiency
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Provide service excellence to customers while following the guidelines of the organization

Minimum Skills

Personal Computer Usage

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Attend all activities sponsored by CPS Energy during summer employment

Demonstrate an interest in seeking a degree applicable to the utility industry

Have an above average attendance record

Must reside in CPS Energy service area

Participate in full-time summer employment with CPS Energy after junior and senior years in high school for 8 weeks each summer.

At least 16 years of age

Completed one summer in SAFE or SITE Internship Program

2nd Year SAFE – successfully completed all four years of HS

2nd Year SITE – successfully completed Alamo Academies Program and all four years of HS.

Pass a drug test and background screen prior to summer employment with CPS Energy

Able to multi-task, have demonstrated organizational, detail orientation, prioritization skills and time management skills to ensure that work related activities are completed in an accurate and timely manner.

Ability to make sound judgments and stay composed in pressure situations

Effective presentation and interpersonal skills demonstrating a positive enthusiastic attitude

Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) at all levels of the organization

Ability to grasp new concepts and methods quickly and apply what was learned in a one on one or in a class environment

Ability to work in an unstructured environment where flexibility, creativity and thinking outside the box is essential

Strong demonstrated character and leadership skills and respected by peers

Ability to work with teams under pressure and with time constraints in a calm and professional manner, coordinating with others to achieve desired results and multiple deadlines

Personal computer experience utilizing Microsoft Office to include Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Ability to meet goals and objectives with minimal direct supervision

Ability to accept as well as offer constructive criticism

Analytical and problem solving abilities

GPA of 2.0 or higher

Working Environment

Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Ability to travel between business related events. Work hours may be extended.
