Position Summary
The IT Financial Manager is responsible for increasing visibility to cloud spending by developing a data driven approach in alerting, reporting, and optimization of cloud costs. The IT Financial Manager will work with IT & Business Owners and identify optimization opportunities to maximize ROI on cloud resources and work towards making our cloud infrastructure cost efficient. The IT Financial Manager is also responsible for the day-to-day management of IT financial support functions such as budgets, forecasting, chargeback, financial monitoring, and other financial administration support required for the IT organization to achieve its strategic and tactical goals. This position will work to continually revise budgets to accommodate dynamic planning of initiatives within platforms and programs when required. The IT Financial Manager is responsible for gathering and analyzing financial information on costs, prices, expenses, and revenues to assist in IT financial planning. The IT Finance Manager collaborates with Leadership to manage the IT budget, develop IT cost models and best practices, and compile financial reports.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Collaborates with IT Leaders on IT Total Cost of Ownership, financial metrics, and cost transparency initiatives
- Develop, modify, and maintain Cloud costs and utilization reports, dashboards, and cost usage forecasting
- Monitor and identify Cloud costs and other usage anomalies and investigate the source of these increases
- Recommend savings opportunities related to Cloud commitment purchases (Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, Spot, Committed/Sustained use) and track utilization of these commitments
- Participate in creating, maturing, and governing Cost Optimization policies and best practices
- Proactively collaborate with our IT & business owners to ensure efficient and effective Cloud cost utilization
- Analyzes and prepares IT budget and develops proposals with supporting documentation (i.e., capex, opex and depreciation)
- Identify, raise, and escalate technical, business, and operational risks and opportunities at our IT & business owners
- Imports, transforms, and rationalizes data from systems of record such as General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Service Desk Application, Centralized Application Repository, IT Asset Management, etc.
- Implement dashboards and automated reporting for cost and cost compliance
- Assists teams in resolving model issues, billing issues and other issues as they may arise
- Analyzes and determines the best package of attributes for the service and the price customers are willing to pay
- Creates service consumption forecasts based on historical data and customer demand
- Monitors contract budget performance identifying variances and recommends corrective action
- Analyzes financial performance and documents insights that enable leadership to determine progress against budgets
- Demonstrate collaborative, team-focused approach with the ability to enable team members through coaching
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of cloud infrastructure, cost reporting, and cost optimization at scale in AWS or Azure
- Solid understanding of the process of tagging resources within AWS/Azure including governance projects
- Expertise with tools such as AWS Cost Explorer or Azure Cost Management
- Demonstrated understanding of IT infrastructure domains including data centers, network/ communications, server utilization, virtual environments, storage, and application development
- Ability to perform in-depth financial analysis through advanced Excel skills and modeling (ROI, NPV, IRR, DCF)
- Strong data analytics and data mining skills
- Ability to communicate technical topics and deliver presentations in a clear, succinct, and relevant way
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships
- Ability to operationalize data monthly by loading, validating, and reviewing on timely basis
- Ability to promote innovative ideas and accept the risks that are required to lead change
- Hands-on Cloud Cost Optimization Analysis
- Relevant work experience in a large cloud environment using AWS or Azure
