Position Summary

Inspect the installation of planned projects by Gas Engineering and Gas Planning, Large Commercial and New Service Delivery. This includes Civic Improvement Projects, System Renewals and System Improvements. Also includes to inspect Notices of Required Inspection on supply and transmission mains.  In addition, Gas Inspector will inspect Locating Marks done by internal and external personnel by performing quality control inspections for Locating Services.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Serve as field liaison between contractors, various areas of CPS Energy, and customers as needed
  • Review project plans/SWPPP/associated permits
  • Complete PHMSA forms to be forwarded to Compliance
  • Maintain records of contractor progress on assigned projects
  • Perform field investigation to follow up on work completed and respond to customer concerns
  • Review/Complete all documentation to each project (maps, as-builts, service cards, pressure tests, etc)
  • Verify alignment of gas facility installation and accuracy of locates
  • Verify PE Fusion Card of contract employee performing the fusion of HDPE pipe             
  • Make sure that facilities are installed to CPS Energy Standards and Specifications
  • Ensure and promote Contractor safety
  • Identify cost cutting measures and process improvements on gas projects.
  • Take Cathodic Protection reads on steel mains and recommend anode placements.
  • Coordinate the utilization of internal crews with Contractors for tie-ins and pressure operation applications. (Pressure Control, Stopple Crews and Welders)
  • Make sure Contractors are following the designs provided by Engineering/Planning and coordinate design modifications with Engineering/Planning.
  • Address customer issues or concerns and from governmental agencies.
  • Assist in coordination activities with landowners, contractors, and CPS Energy’s personnel
  • Perform Notice of Required Inspections (NRIs) on contractors working near Transmission and Supply Pressure Facilities.
  • Perform Quality Control inspections on Contract and Internal Locators
  • Perform Damage Prevention Investigations on 3rd Party damages to CPS Energy facilities and ensure RRC compliance
  • Message Damage Prevention Rules and Regulations to Excavators and Key Stakeholders
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools like MS-Excel, MS-Word, MS-Outlook, MS-PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat etc.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Possess a valid driver’s license with a history of a safe driving record in accordance with CPSE policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable laws and regulations
Ability to reconcile materials at end of projects
Ability to complete Construction Inspector’s Report
Demonstrated ability to multi-task various critical work assignments proactively and independently in a fast paced environment and in a professional manner.
Ability to read and interpret construction designs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to navigate in GIS to verify feeds and locations of gas facilities.

Minimum Education

High School Diploma or GED

Working Environment

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Employee may potentially be exposed to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, noisy and dusty environment. Ability to travel to & from meetings, training sessions or other busi-related events. After hours & call duty work required.

Physical Demands

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking & standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
