Position Summary

Represents CPS Energy Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE) and its load and resources in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) Wholesale Market.  Follows all ERCOT, Texas Reliability Entity (TRE), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and Texas Railroad Commission (TRC) requirements as applicable to CPS Energy load, generation, and gas control.  Monitors and supports operation of natural gas pipelines for distribution and generation assets.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Performs QSE functions for CPS Energy and utilizes electronic systems for energy marketing, generation dispatching, and market analysis
  • Analyzes data for updating generation, demand, and fuel requirements for the current and next operating days
  • Responds to power plant conditions and communicates resource status updates to ERCOT and other stakeholders
  • Communicates market issues and events and completes logging and required
  • Coordinates all resource derating and outages between power plants and ERCOT
  • Conducts activities for managing energy and ancillary service obligations
  • Coordinates with fuel management personnel for ensuring delivery of fuel required for generation dispatching
  • Takes actions during normal and emergency events or conditions as necessary to protect the physical and financial interests of the company
  • Monitors and supports gas pipeline operations and deliveries
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Skills

Personal Computer Usage

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Ability to be an independent thinker with the ability to make sound decisions based on available information
Possess a valid driver’s license with a history of a safe driving record in accordance with CPSE policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable laws and regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • NERC and/or ERCOT certified.
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License
  • Experience in ERCOT wholesale power markets
  • Experience in gas or transmission operations
  • Asset optimization or analytics
  • Financial or economics experience

Minimum Education

Associate's Degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, or Computer Science or Power Plant Control Room Operations or Electric Grid System Operations experience.

Working Environment

Work is performed indoors & outdoors. Manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of computing equipment, telephone, & printer/copier. Ability to travel to and from business related events. After hours work may be required.
