Position Summary

The Director of Enterprise Architecture is accountable for proactively and holistically leading enterprise responses to disruptive forces by identifying and analyzing the execution of change toward the desired business vision and targeted outcomes. The Director of Enterprise Architecture is responsible for taking a practical approach to supporting the business. This starts and ends with a focus on delivering signature-ready, actionable recommendations to business leaders, so they can adjust policies and projects to achieve target business outcomes.

Director of Enterprise Architectures is a critical executive leader that oversees and manages the formal enterprise architecture program, directly leading a team of architects (business, information, solution, technical and other).

The Director of Enterprise Architecture is responsible for helping business leaders enable their future-state business capabilities driving the organization's targeted business outcomes through the choice of programs, projects and initiatives the organization chooses to invest in. Director of Enterprise Architectures must be capable of practically applying existing, new and emerging technologies to new and evolving business and operating models while being able understand, monetize and operationalize new technologies.

Director of Enterprise Architectures lead and coordinate all aspects of the EA program, including: (1) business architecture, which is focused on guiding people, process and organizational change; (2) information architecture, which is focused on the consistent sharing of information across the enterprise; (3) solutions architecture, which is focused on developing a direction for managing the portfolio of to-be solutions; (4) technical architecture, which is focused on evolving the technical infrastructure; and (5) security architecture, which is focused on managing IT risk through the exchange of information between people, systems and things inside and outside the organization. Application architecture is a subset of solutions architecture.

Director of Enterprise Architectures lead the EA program and its efforts to develop, maintain and govern the enterprise architecture across the organization. They are responsible for defining the EA process and architecture review and advisory process, and for leading the integration of those processes with related business and IT processes. They lead, prioritize and develop the overall enterprise architecture approach for the organization, and communicate architectural direction.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Partnership & Collaboration

  • Collaborate and build trusted relationships with senior and executive management across the company
  • Serve as trusted advisor to other executives and leaders to develop a clear understanding of business needs, ensuring cost-effective delivery of IT services to meet those needs

Strategy Development & Planning

  • Lead the development of the enterprise architecture (EA) strategy and roadmap.
  • Communicate clear vision for department through effective messaging and partnering with other leaders and team members
  • Articulate how strategic, emerging, and operational technologies can help CPS Energy be more successful
  • Remain current and aware of changing technology trends, regulations and laws
  • Provide expertise in budget planning and financial management preferably with chargeback models, ROI, & P/L

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide expertise in executive leadership including personal development, coaching, mentoring, performance management, and employee engagement management
  • Develop and maintain a technology workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills and competencies
  • Hire, train, develop and appraise staff effectively.
  • Drive a strong customer service mindset within the EA team, driving strong service leadership

Enterprise Architecture Executive

  • Leading the creation or evolution of the EA function
  • Leading and facilitating the creation of governing principles
  • Ensuring that the optimal governance structure and compliance activities are associated with EA compliance
  • Leading the development of an implementation plan for the EA, based on business requirements and IT strategies
  • Defining organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes

Data Architecture

  • Assist in the coordination of data governance activities
  • Develop and maintain an integrated, subject-oriented, predominantly conceptual enterprise data model
  • Develop and maintain cross-references that map elements of the enterprise data model to information systems, business applications, and data-oriented information technologies

Digital Architecture

  • Work with digital experience team to develop enterprise digital transformation roadmap and phased approach for its execution
  • Ensures the architecture for digital transformation journey
  • Make recommendations for tools and technologies
  • Detail potential competitive threats from digital enterprises that are generally considered outside of your traditional realm of competition

Network Architecture

  • Analyze enterprise business context, as well as change requirements in other architecture viewpoints
  • Define, communicate and document the standards and technology for the enterprise Network Architecture
  • Lead the analysis of the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.

Cloud Architecture

  • Create cloud architecture models that reflect our strategies and goals
  • Develop devOps pipeline to support continuous deployment of Managed Cloud standard architecture
  • Recommend and participate in the design and implementation of cloud standards, tools and methodologies.
  • Implementing and optimizing deployment pipelines, configuration management, monitoring and reporting tools to automate product deployments
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Previous experience as a successful enterprise architect
Experience in at least two IT disciplines in a heterogeneous environment — or experience in solution architecture, business analysis or business strategic planning
Demonstrated track record of leading high-performance teams toward the successful attainment of challenging goals
Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA, APIs, open data, micro services, event-driven IT and predictive analytics
Exposure and understanding of existing, new and emerging technologies, and processing environments
Exceptional soft and interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation
Must possess strong leadership skills
Excellent analytical and technical skills
Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
Excellent planning and organizational skills
Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture
Knowledge of business engineering principles and processes
Familiarity with basic graphical modeling approaches, tools and model repositories
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters’ degree in business, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, system analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experience
  • Additional training or certification in organization change management highly desirable

Work is performed indoors & outdoors. Manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of computing equipment, telephone, & printer/copier. Ability to travel to and from business related events. After hours work may be required
