Position Summary:

The Risk Management Services Financial Analyst position is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and monitoring areas of potential risk exposures that threaten our people, processes, and technology in alignment with our Insurance and Enterprise Risk program.  This position will act as a trusted liaison to the organization by effectively communicating and building relationships to support identifying, managing, and mitigating risk exposures through insurance solutions and/or risk mitigation action plans.  Additionally, the position will assist in providing insurance and risk advisory services to the organization. The position will also conduct analysis to assist in strategic decision-making related to complex electric, natural gas, and power generation operations, which can have a significant financial and business continuity impact on the organization.  

 

Tasks & Responsibilites: 

 

•    Facilitate and support business area collaboration risk discussions to include the annual risk register refresh and integrated planning sessions, which helps to identify and mitigate risks. 
•    Assist in the development of Board level presentations and communication for insurance and risk related topics such as the sub- committee risk presentations, the risk register, risk mitigation action item status updates, insurance renewals, and the effectiveness of the insurance program.
•    Assist and/or lead risk mitigation activities such as Risk Red Sheets, Business Case Reviews, Audit Action Items & Root Cause Analysis action items in alignment with the Enterprise Risk Program.
•    Collaborate cross-functionally with assigned business areas to provide risk mitigation plan action item status updates.
•    Advise and follow-up with assigned business areas to ensure risk mitigation plan action items are adequate and appropriate. 
•    Create and distribute Enterprise Risk and Insurance Program financial and statistical reports. 
•    Support process improvements that align with the organization, the Enterprise Risk, Internal Controls, and/or the Insurance Program.  
•    Provide on-going oversight and administration of CPS Energy’s enterprise-wide insurance policies and insurance reserve strategy, which includes various insurance coverage lines such as property, excess liability, employment practices, excess workers compensation, cyber, directors & officers, commercial crime and other ancillary policies.
•    Manage and support the procurement of CPS Energy’s commercial insurance policy renewals and/or creating new purchase orders that includes utilizing insurance brokers services for renewal strategy meetings, completing insurance renewal applications that require obtaining information from various business units, and assuming field representative responsibilities for the renewal placement (e.g. generating purchase requisitions, reviewing/validating insurance premium invoices for payment purposes).
•    Develop and conduct risk and insurance related training to the organization such as effective loss prevention and risk mitigation plans.
•    Lead CPS Energy STP insurance point of contact activities such as collaborating with STP owners and periodic reporting to CPS Energy’s STP executive management stakeholders. 
•    Review CPS Energy third-party contracts for the assignment of insurance requirements (where needed) as part of the Supply Chain procurement workflow review process to ensure the appropriate allocation of risk to third party vendors, which includes analyzing the risk exposures associated with a third-party contract’s scope of work.
•    Assist in the administration of CPS Energy’s insurance reserve program to ensure adequate funding within self-insured retentions levels maintained by major insurance policies, which includes relying on and analyzing an actuarial study analysis performed by an independent actuarial consulting firm, which involves procuring such services in accordance with the Supply Chain procurement guidelines. 
•    Coordinating and facilitate the management and administration of year-end insurance reserve adjustments that includes scheduling meetings with General Accounting, generating reserve adjustments schedules, and present insurance reserve adjustment recommendations to CPS Energy Management for review/approval.
•    Support all daily activities such as insurance reviews, insurance certificate reviews to ensure they are kept current and provide an aging report to management on the status of the work items.
•    Establish budget estimates for annual insurance premium and reserve accrual costs to ensure adequate planning dollars are included in CPS Energy’s annual O&M budget to include generating budget worksheets and conducting meetings with General Accounting, FP&A and ERMS management for review/approval purposes.
•    Assist with generating monthly insurance premium expense reporting data that includes the submission of a monthly report to General Accounting detailing the premium prepaid and expense general ledger accounts to charge and the accumulated and remaining premium expense amounts to amortize for each active insurance policy.
•    Assist with Claims Management activities to include working closely with Claims & Legal business areas to monitor property/casualty claim activity and review/compile claim loss data used for insurance renewal applications and annual actuarial study.
•    Facilitate and coordinate risk assessments and property inspections conducted by property/casualty insurance carriers at various CPS Energy locations (power plants, substations, office locations, and district service centers).  This includes identifying key CPS Energy business unit stakeholders, scheduling inspections, and leading an opening conference to outline the areas of focus, inspection meetings, and a closing conference to review/discuss results and possible risk improvement suggestions/recommendations.
•    Assist with the updating of property asset replacement values as part of the annual property insurance renewal process that includes obtaining Handy Whitman Index Manual, working with IT to upload index values to SAP, collaborating with Property Accounting to perform index validation testing, and preparing insurable values schedules to be submitted to the property insurance carrier. 
•    Assist with preparing quarterly and year-end PBC’s and X-Files as part of CPS Energy’s annual external audit activities.
•    Assist in the analysis of external insurance carrier reports, insurance industry publications and root cause analysis action items with respect to the Risk Program, provide recommendations based on the analysis, and monitor the effectiveness of the recommendations.
•    Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process flows. 
•    Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Master’s degree Business Administration with concentration in Finance, Accounting, Auditing, Economics, or related field from an accredited university.
  • Relevant Certification or designation such ARM (Associate in Risk Management), CPA, CIA, CPP, CTP or CRMP

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with concentration in Finance, Accounting, Auditing or related field from an accredited university.
