Position Summary

The Director of Product Development is responsible for leading the product planning and execution through the Product Lifecycle, including:  gathering and prioritizing products and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with information technology, sales, marketing, engineering, and customer services to ensure revenue, customer experience, and other defined goals are met.   Additionally, this position is responsible for inspiring cross-functional product teams to find the fastest way to go to market in a thoughtful & rigorous manner, as well as focus on adoption of agile methodologies & processes to deliver products & services. 

The Director of Product Development is also key in participating and structuring relevant product research to understand current & future needs, establishing competitive intelligence and performing market value analyses.

The ideal candidate must be able to work at the strategic level (innovative ideas for growth) and at the tactical level (analyzing data, solving problems, being a force multiplier and leader of the team & organization).

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Define the product strategies, roadmap, and release objectives (as applicable)
  • Identify customer & market needs, prioritize areas of focus, and ensure successful execution
  • Engage extensively with customer to gain first-hand insight on customer & market feedback on current & future products
  • Participate in core positioning, messaging & marketing for products & services
  • Participate in product demos to customers
  • Deliver monthly sales & revenue forecasts
  • Assist in development sales tools & collateral
  • Assist in training
  • Create technical & functional product spec sheets
  • Oversees key projects, processes, and performance reports, data & analytics
  • Negotiates contracts with consulting firms to perform research or other applicable studies or support
  • Work with external third parties to assess partnership & licensing opportunities
  • Run beta & pilot programs with early-stage products & samples
  • Fuel a passion with the team for designing and building innovative solutions that improve the lives of millions
  • Stay current on industry trends and develop innovative & breakthrough solutions that challenge the status quo

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

A minimum of 10 years in product development with deep experience in following Product Development Lifecycle methodologies & processes

Deep focus & experience in the energy industry and creating sustainable environmental solutions

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw conclusions

Project management skills with demonstrated ability to push projects over the finish line with sound planning & persistent execution

Deep experience in creating financial business cases to support innovative products & services

Open and collaborative style

Must be comfortable working in an environment where ideas are shared and challenged

Ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority

Strong interpersonal skills and written communication skills to work with all levels of personnel within the organization.

Proven critical thinking & analytical skills - problem diagnosis, resolution options, successful plan execution

Demonstrated ability to build an exemplary product development organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA in Business or Marketing or related field

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Economics, Business Administration or related field from an accredited institution or relevant work experience

Working Environment

Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Ability to travel between business related events. Work hours may be extended.
