Position Summary

Provides leadership and management in the creation, revision, interpretation and enforcement of compliance with CPS Energy’s Electric Service Standards that govern the requirements for electric service installations of all CPS Energy customers.  Creates, updates and interprets standards that govern the interconnection requirements for alternative energy sources (including distributed generation: solar, wind, land field gas, etc.) in the CPS Energy service area. Creates, revises and reviews electric service and metering equipment specifications. Serve as liaison between CPS Energy and the local Authority Having Jurisdictions as it relates to electric services. Provide technical guidance, advise, and assistance to multiple internal and external Customer groups.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Revises and updates the Electric Service Standards Book and Electric Meter Wiring Standards on a three year cycle.
  • Ensures that CPS Energy electric service and metering requirements are in compliance with all applicable national, state, and local codes.
  • Provides expertise and technical support to internal and external engineers/designers and electrical contractors related to interpretation and application of the Electric Service Standards.
  • Manages relationship between CPS Energy and all City Electrical Inspector Offices in the CPS Energy’s Service area (in include, but limited to  City of San Antonio, Alamo Heights, Castle Hill, Olmos Park, Converse, Leon Valley, etc).
  • Ensures that distributed generation systems are reviewed and in compliance with all national, state, local codes, and with CPS Energy Electric Service Standards, prior to energizing and interconnecting to a net-system or CPS Energy distribution system.
  • Development and revision of all metering equipment specifications.
  • Engages staff in safety efforts such as safety awareness, compliance with safety policies and procedures and enforcing and addressing any safety concerns/issues.
  • Reinforces a culture of exceptional customer service to improve customer satisfaction and recommends continuous improvement opportunities to meet business needs and exceed customer expectations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Ability to lead a diverse team of staff. This leadership experience may be through formal supervisory experience or informally, such as directing the work of a junior colleague, or through significant peer leadership experience.

Progressive experience in the electric service

Experience in the field of electric service and metering

Knowledge and experience with electrical metering

Knowledge of and experience with various company, Local, State, National and Industry codes and regulations as it applies to an electric service and metering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling
  • Ability to articulate the service and metering problem to be analyzed, quickly identify the critical elements of the problem, achieve a high quality answer in a timely fashion, and synthesize answers to resonate with decision makers.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, planning, multi-tasking, negotiation, problem-solving, verbal, written and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate team building with employees across various disciplines and at all levels, including ability to engage people in productive activities without formal authority.

Minimum Education

Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited university. or proven working experience may be used in lieu of degree

Working Environment

Work is performed indoors & outdoors. Manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of computing equipment, telephone, & printer/copier. Ability to travel to and from business related events. After hours work may be required.
