Position Summary

With oversight, maintains CPS Energy Information Security Program, which includes securing network infrastructure, information resources, information systems, external and internal web applications, telecommunications, wireless communications, desktop / laptops, and policies & procedures.  Also maintains CPS Energy business applications and analytic systems; Governance, Risk, & Compliance (GRC) activities, support security administration, policies, and procedures.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Serves as an internal information security consultant to the organization.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of security policies and procedures
  • Initiates, facilitates and promotes activities to create information security awareness within the organization.
  • Performs information security risk assessments and serves as an internal expert for information security related issues.
  • Reviews all system-related security plans throughout the organization's corporate information systems and applications.
  • Monitors compliance with information security policies and procedures, referring problems to the appropriate department manager or business area.
  • Maintains information security devices and solutions for the organization, such as Intrusions Detection Systems, e-Discovery, Hard Disk Encryption, and Vulnerability Scanners.
  • Supports the security incident response process.
  • Provides input in selection of system software & hardware, with emphasis on security and compliance requirements.
  • Provides incident and problem resolution.
  • Implements ongoing improvements to security configurations and operating procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills

Personal Computer Usage

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Personal computer experience utilizing Microsoft Office to include Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Strong demonstrated character and leadership skills and respected by peers

Self-motivated and results-oriented

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Must possess effective networking skills

Proven critical thinking & analytical skills - problem diagnosis, resolution options, successful plan execution

Must be able to participate in full-time employment with CPS Energy for duration of summer.

Attend all activities sponsored by CPS Energy during summer employment

Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas and concepts to those with less technical background

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and punctuality
  • Reliable transportation to and from
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License. Not required, but helpful.
  • Must have favorable driving record

Minimum Education

Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Computer Systems, Management Information Systems or a related field from an accredited university.

Required Certifications

Working Environment

Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Ability to travel between business related events. Work hours may be extended.
