Position Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating and designing replacement and or modifications to existing underground residential distribution systems.  The typical type of work is associated to the replacement of failing direct-buried cable systems, modifications to existing underground residential distribution systems to accommodate new customers, designs of system improvement projects, design of riser relocations due to pole replacements and designs of new streetlight installations. All design work is performed in GIS and Microstation.  Internal efforts also include coordinating with Customer Engineering Department for work related to new customer services, ROW management as well as our Environmental department to ensure the appropriate easements and environmental clearance is obtained before releasing the work to construction. Finally, this position is responsible for performing As-Builts in GIS after the construction work has been completed, and timely completion of these As-Builts is necessary to ensure timely posting of assets and updating of maps for the safety of our Construction and Operations field personnel.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and design requests for underground electric residential distribution systems, riser relocations due to pole replacements and streetlight installations/relocations
  • Attend meetings both in the office and on-site
  • Perform field surveying and staking
  • Observe all Safety policies and procedures
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all customers
  • Apply Electric Design and Construction Standards, Electric Service Standards
  • Ensure all requested customer due dates are up to date
  • Ensure all design work sketches/drawings are accurate
  • Maybe called in to assist operations with wire downs
  • Complete required trainings/workshops onsite or offsite as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to meet goals and objectives with minimal direct supervision
Demonstrated well-developed written and verbal communications skills for interaction within the section, across departmental lines to all levels of personnel, and vertically with management.
Initiative to work independently or as a member of a team, coordinating with others to achieve desired results
Ability to work in a variety of locations such as the field, construction centers and the main office
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling
Ability to set priorities, organize work and make occasional exceptions.
Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with customers and support teams.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal behaviors toward CPS Energy, associates, and customers consistent with company core values.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge in electrical systems
  • Knowledge in Designer/GIS
  • Knowledge in work management software’s WMIS and SAP (customer information, load information, work order information, etc.)

Minimum Education
Associate's Degree in Science with a concentration in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical or related field from an accredited university. or Relative experience in design.

Work is performed indoors & outdoors. Manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of computing equipment, telephone, & printer/copier. Ability to travel to and from business related events. After hours work may be required
